You need that Receipt number.

Does not sound (to me) that he is being totally open and honest with you.

I filed for a CR-1 in Feb 2012, and my wife already has her green card.

You can request for the receipt number from USCIS via email. There are lots of reasons why a petition could not be approved right away, and I am guessing that yours is going through this. What is involved in the reviews done by USCIS is his and your background. If there's something derogatory in his background or yours, then it would surely be delayed. Background investigation is everything that involves security i.e. "has your husband been to prison?", "has your husband been classified as a threat to national security?", "does he have any matrimonial problems?", etc.

Just hang in there as things would be ironed out. Perhaps he simply does not want you to worry too much. You're not the only one who's had this kind of problem and most of them were approved finally, though it took a long time.
