Yes, you can file for AOS without a SSN. It's not a problem, but get a SSN as soon as you can, it will be done. :)

Can anyone please advise me, do I need a social security number to Apply for AOS or can it be done without.

many thanks

For a K-1 visa holder, you have approximately 2 weeks after arrival to 2 weeks before teh I-94 expires to apply for a SSN. After that window you will need the EAD or GC to get a SSN. So if you happen to have let the I-94 expire before applying for AOS you cannot get a SSN until after you file the AOD/EAD/AP package. Since the SSN has become a psuedo national ID number, it is recommended you get teh SSN ASAP so that process is completed. It is a completely seperate process from the whole immigration process, but it does depend on your immigration status and which documentation is valid for the SSA to process your application.

That is the long answer to your question.

Good luck,

Dave
