Question on I-485

I know the answer has to be somewhere but I I'm obviously looking in the wrong place. After we POE and marry within the 90 days, what is our status? Trying to start the next process of AOS.

Being married to a US citizen does not offer any status, but the opportunity to file for AOS.

Until you file the AOS, your status will be based on when the I-94 expires. If you don't file your AOS before the I-94 expires, you would be out of status. Think of this as being in limbo status, because you cannot legally work, leave the US (you can but you won't be able to get back into the US),and various other benefits that GC folks get.

Just file your AOS ASAP to avoid the headaches/worries.

If it's about completing the AOS documents, I suggest using the example forms. It made filing out the form very easy for us.

Your status will be K-1.

Once the USCIS has received your AoS package, you'll enter a period of authorized stay. That's no status per se, but a period where nobody will touch you. Call it "status pending" although that would not be entirely correct.

This is accurate. When I had the same question that the OP did, a very sharp immigration attorney told me that I could put "K-1 visa entrant." The status, he said, is "applicant for adjustment" or, more simply, "adjustment applicant."
