Help! Status Changed J1 to B2

Hi!

On September 5th I applied to a Change of Status from J1 to B2. On October 31th was in my mail box the Approval Notice I 797A. Valid bettween 10/27/12 to 11/05/12. The problem is that on October 25th I bought a ticket to return to Brazil because my case was taking to long to be precessed and now my flight is booked for November 11th. I can not change the flight.

What I have to do? Will be a problem for me to go back to Brazil? or problems to return in the future?

You won't have any problem going back to Brazil, that's what you're expected to do. It appears you will have an overstay of a week, that may or may not pose a problem in the future. If you spend a reasonable amount of time in Brazil and show solid ties to your home country when you reapply, there's a good chance you will be allowed to enter the states. You should keep copies of all your paperwork documenting this time line so you can use it for your next visa.

Are you sure they approved your change of status from J1 to B2? One week is a very short time for them to give you. Why did you purchase a plane ticket without the results of your COS?
