joint sponsor already sponsored someone

Hello everyone, I need help to clarify. I want to ask my mother to be the joint sponsor for my husband. Does it matter that she was also a sponsor for my sister's husband? Does she have to have enough money for a household of her, my dad, my sister's husband(who lives in a different part of the country), and my husband? So a house-hold of 4? Or a household of 5 or 6? (since me, my husband and our son will live with them when we first arrive).

Thanks!

It will be for everyone, unless your sister's husband became a US Citizen since his sponsorship. I suggest reviewing the form, It will help you understand who's part of the household.

The petitioner's husband and son are not counted in the joint sponsor's household. The joint sponsor can provide an I-864 counting only the immediate family plus the previously sponsored immigrant. If the previously sponsored immigrant in now a citizen instead of a green card holder, do not count them.

The petitioner and US citizen child of the petitioner would only be counted if they need to combine income with the joint sponsor (in the same household) in order to have enough income to qualify. If Mom qualifies for 4, have her do an I-864, not an I-864a.

Thank you for your reply. I don't think that my mom should have any problem covering all of us, I just want to make sure to cover all of my bases. (My brother-in-law is not yet a US citizen.) And good to know that me and my son don't have to be counted in the household. (FYI: My son has US citizenship because I did a Consular Report of Birth Abroad when he was born)

So to confirm:

My mom and I both fill out the I-864

Mom includes:

3 years of 1040s

3 years of w2s

a letter from her employer

3 previous paystubs

My Dad should fill our I-864A since they file taxes together.

I have lived and worked in Israel for the last 6 years, so I have only 3 years of 1040s to include. I don't have w2s since my employer is not American and a letter from my employer and paystubs wouldn't be relevant since my job is in Israel and I will have to find a new one anyways when I get to the US. So the only docs I will include for my I-864 are my 1040 transcripts. Does this sound right?

Also, I will gather documents to prove intention to domicile.

Does this sound like everything to you guys? Thank you so much for your help!

Yes, but instead of thinking of 1040s, and W2 forms, think of Complete Tax Returns including ALL forms, schedules and W2 forms. (Everything that would be mailed to IRS if filing by mail)

Thank you pushbrk for your quick and clear responses! I have the whole tax package for my mom, but for me the only thing I sent to the IRS was the 1040s, since I pay taxes here in Israel. So you agree that these are the only docs I need from myself? (other than those showing intention to domicile)

For you, the 1040 probably is the complete tax return.
