yeah...we got blue slipped this morning.....and everything had gone so well up to then. We saw the pink slip during document review. the lady there asked for my 2011 taxes and luckily I had just received the 2011 transcript that weekend. a couple other odds and ends and we were good. We waited less than an hour to be called for the interview. The CO (a woman) was very friendly and even spoke Mandarin (my wife is a PRC citizen). Everything was great....she asked very few questions.....and THEN:

"you are all approved except I need a police report from CHINA!!" We got a police report from Vietnam as the instructions say...that's where we reside. nobody ever said anything (including my damn lawyer) about a police report from China. If we'd known that we could have got it months ago when we were jumping through hoops to get her birth certificate! So after the crushing disappointment of 2 B2 visa denials....all the frustration and hassle and delay in preparing our IR1-CR1 case....and then with uplifted hopes and relief that it looks like everything will be fine....only to get this blue slip. My wife is in tears......

No choice but to try and get one which is not easy....considering we're here and China is there. and now our trip back for Christmas is in jeopardy....

so frustrating....

will

Police clearance is needed if you lived in a foreign country for more than six months.

Even if you're in Vietnam now, you should also get a PC from China if your wife lived there too.

ok la.

someone in China have her listed in their hukuo book ?

if so, that person can get a Police Clearance Certificate for her at the big PSB -

just bring in THAT hukuo book to the big PSB office in the city/district/province,

be certain to mention that it's for immigration purposes.

and then

get to a Notarial translation office and have the PCC translated from chinese into English

then send all off to your wife in Vietnam.

Good Luck !

I know how that feel. We had to get the PC from Vietnam and it took almost 1 months to get it and 3 days to send it here via express mail. If they give you a time frame, you better get it done before the time runs out.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

Wife's journey.
Day 01 - 07/25/2012 - Mailed AOS package (I-130,I-131, I-485,I-765) via UPS Next Day Air.
Day 02 - 07/26/2012 - Package delivered by UPS.
Day 10 - 08/03/2012 - Got 4 emails confirm AOS package had been received. Checks cashed.
Day 13 - 08/06/2012 - Receipt Numbers are track-able on USCIS website.
Day 18 - 08/11/2012 - Biometrics Notice received (Dated: 8/8, Appointment: 8/29)
Day 20 - 08/13/2012 - Walk-in biometrics done.
Day 24 - 08/17/2012 - Received 4 NOA letters.
Day 27 - 08/20/2012 - 2nd Biometrics Notice received. Same day walk-in biometrics done.
Day 41 - 09/03/2012 - Email and txt notification of interview.
Day 43 - 09/05/2012 - Interview Notice in the mail. This is GREAT!
Day 63 - 09/25/2012 - EAD txt notification. I-765 online status updated.
Day 69 - 10/01/2012 - EAD Mailed.
Day 71 - 10/03/2012 - Interview. I-130 approved. I-485 will be approved after police clearance received. / EAD received. Wrong name. Wrong country of birth.
... waiting for Police Reports from Vietnam and current city's police dept.
11/01/2012 - RFE Police reports sent.
11/06/2012 - I-485 Approved. Card production email received.
11/09/2012 - Email notification. Card picked up by USPS.
11/15/2012 - GC received. Correct name. Still wrong country of birth.

Remove condition:

10/22/2014 - I-751 notice receipt received.

time frame should be 1 year... By no means wait that long.. its a relatively easy fix and a pink is waiting when you get that documentation to them. Just look on the bright side, they gave a blue asking for something, could have been a blue asking for nothings and saying go home we'll let ya know, or a full on denial... The entire immigration system is filled with potential hurdles and anyone going through it should expect the possibility of delays... not fun but do-able...

I understand your frustration, however, if you read the requirements for the visa it says more than once on the DOS website that you MUST obtain police certificates from each and every country you have lived in for longer than 6 months from the age of 16. And I question how good of an immigration attorney you used if he/she didn;t know this.

yeah, I accept full responsibility....I missed that fine print and concentrated on a police report from our current country of residence. and yes, I am not happy with our immigration laywer who did not make a point of reminding us of this requirement. he repeatedly stated getting the report from VN though he knew full well that my wife is a PRC citizen and that we lived there prior to coming to VN. When I complained to him about it yesterday he basically called us a couple of whining crybabies! LOL

anyway, it appears all's well that end's well. my wife's family can apply a little guanxi and i'll provide a case of free shoes and we should have the police report sometime next week and we'll be on our way.

Will

I would ask for my money back from your lawyer. Evidently, he didn't do his job. You pay him to take care your paper work, and tell you what's needed. Who is this lawyer anyway? do you mind post his contact info here so the new comer can avoid him? Good luck to you guys.

Don't worry too much. Just do whatever you can to get your hands on that PC from China. As soon as you get that, take it back to the consulate and you should be able to get your pink slip without anymore issues. Two weeks ago we received a blue slip, asking for transcripts (I turned in returns). We brought it to the window as soon as we got it. The lady took one look at it and came back with a pink slip a few minutes later. No further questions were asked of us. So let her know not to worry. Like Scott said, it's an easy fix, it just takes time.

guanxi rocks. Don't forget about the Chinese to English Translation step, though - usually done at another office, not the PSB.
