Hello Everybody,

My husband who is US Citizen initiated our divorce process 3 months back. It was not possible for me to stay in US in that disturbed mind state so I came to India in Sept 2012. Before coming my parents suggested me to get a re-entry permit and at least complete my post graduate degree in India. I applied to this college even 6-7 months before our plan for separation, as anyway this degree was important for me

After reaching India, unfortunate I wasn't able to complete all the admission formalities in time so college cancelled my candidature. But I would still like to be here since my mental state is just not stable and right to move back. I might be staying with my parents for like next 4-5 months and I can only stay on basis of my re-entry permit.

When I come back to US, will the authorities question me if I did education or what I did during that period. If I say that due to personal circumstances I had to stay, can it cause any issue since original reason was violated.

What should I do. Any other good reason that I can tell them

Please help me in this situation

If you left in September and plan on going back 4-5 months for now, you'll only have been out about half a year and should be fine.

Yes that is true. But in case I decide to stay there more than 6 months then I need to use re-entry permit

I was like totally dependent on my husband in US and now I need to plan for things ahead. If worst case I need to stay more and reason still remains nothing more than stable mind state and time needed to do some concrete planning, how can I explain this when I return back ?

Do authorities actually try to verify or ask to validate the reason ?. Can I inform authorities right now about changing my reason

I guess the reason you haven't had a response is that nobody here knows for sure. My intuition is that you're probably fine with the re-entry permit that you already have. But if you're really worried you could contact an immigration attorney in the US - it shouldn't cost much for a quick consultation on this question.
