We have our AOS package almost ready to go, except for my tax transcript which I'm waiting on. Hope this government shutdown doesn't last too long. The AOS package was a lot easier to put together than we had anticipated -- took us about a day. The worst part is writing that massive check!

Kumi, sorry your husband didn't get his job. It's a tough market out there, as you already know! Hope he finds a job in a workplace that truly appreciates him.

We're having his mom help us our getting W2s and tax transcripts done. Yup, that check was a hard one for my husband to write too, but we did get help from his parents. Thanks Stuart and Katie. I know. It's just saddening to see him frustrated. It's either he's overqualified and they don't see him staying in the company for long term or he's qualified but doesn't have any supervisory experience. Tomorrow was a very frustrating day. Hope this day will be better.

Hopefully there won't be any issues, I am itching to get a job!

Looking into volunteering also, what are the rest of you beneficiaries in the US doing with your spare time?

I'm also ready to get my Maryland driving license sorted, I need to take a drug and alcohol program (which includes a 15 minute test I will take tomorrow), a knowledge test and then the practical test before I can get a license so they don't make it easy for us foreigners to come in and start driving on their streets here (crazy 'cos so many MD drivers are bloody awful!)

Awesome...Congrats. We're just going to get married at city hall to satisfy all of the legal requirements and then have a ceremony we can plan for later. Can't wait to get to that point.

I feel the same way. I want to find a job too, any job. I just don't like being idle for this long work-wise. I want to volunteer to and in-laws suggested volunteering for the church which is just two houses away. During my spare time I do chores, even if I don't have to. Just because I do want to do something every once in a while lol. Driving is also part of my next goals >_> I have no experience in driving, since there was no need for it back in my country. Public transportation was everywhere.

Congrats! That's okay. I think most of us here have the same plan too. If all goes right, we plan ours sometime in spring or summer. If it doesn't work out, we'll push for our anniversary date.

Em is going stir crazy too! He's been spending some days at home helping out my dad (he had back surgery 3 weeks ago), some days with me at my office, and some days with my mom at her office. But all he's doing is watching TV shows online. When he's at home he does chores too, just to feel like he's doing something. We're going to ask around at some architecture firms to see if he could work as an unpaid apprentice or intern. He really misses driving too, and we weren't able to get him a SS card before the government shut down, so he's just stuck for a while.

I read some of the things you all have written on here to him, and it made him feel better to know he's not alone. :-)

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but unpaid apprenticeships or internships are off limits to K-1 visa holders. The following is direct from USCIS:

A foreign national cannot perform work as a volunteer in a position that would normally be a paid position or if the foreign national believes that some form of compensation will follow.

All that is OK is if there is a volunteer position that is EXPLICITLY advertised as a volunteering position. I wanted to do an internship myself but alas it could lead to problems down the line so best left alone.

Received NOA1 (text and email) with 2 receipt numbers:

1 for "fingerprint fee" which I assume means the I-485 package?

1 for my I-765

Anyone else got their NOA1 yet? I didn't apply for AP so did people who applied for AP aswell get 3 receipt numbers?
