So, what maps and travel guides have you used when traveling to the ME/NA? Would you recommend it or throw it in the trash?

My parents used the DK Eyewitness Egypt book to plan their trip. The pictures are quite nice, and it provided decent information.

I have the Rough Guide - 4th edition. The only real complaint I had with it is that it showed the Al Azhar part of the Cairo subway as complete, and it wasn't, even up through summer of 05 when I was there. Wonder if that's been updated in the more recent versions?

Also, phrase books - Emergency Arabic - absolute essential if you don't speak the language.

Sometime in 2008 - Received 10 year GC. Almost done with USCIS for life inshaAllah! Huzzah!

02/23/09 - Apply for citizenship

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!

Lonely Planet's Moroccan Arabic phrasebook is decent, excpet the way they write the pronounciation is difficult to understand sometimes if you have not already been exposed to the language, and sometimes I noticed what they write in Arabic and what they write in the latin transcprition do not always correspond.. but it's really the only phrasebook around and it does a decent job. (if you look on the net though, you can find some of the peace corps darija book, which is MUCH more comprehensive and will help you in much of the home life aspects, which the lonely planet doesn't really do, since it's targeted to tourists.) I also like the Rough Guide Morocco travel book and Lonely Planet's Morocco travel book.
