Have you received the paper copy? In my email received (Oct 31st) it said to wait until you receive the paper copy to check the status online. I would hope if they took the time to say that then we will be able to check our status online.

Our NOA2 (Vermont) came nearly 6 months after the NOA1, which was earlier this year. I have no idea whether their processing times are faster now but if I were you I wouldn't start checking the status right now as you're in for a bit of a wait, that's for sure. Be patient, you'll get there:) and good luck!

USCIS uses the Customer Relationship Information System, or "CRIS" computer system for online status updates. That's not the actual system where your case information is stored. It would be a security risk if that system were directly accessible from a web page. USCIS using the Computer-Linked Application Information Management System, or "CLAIMS" for actual internal case management. The CRIS system never talks directly to the CLAIMS system. Again, that would be a security risk. Instead, the CLAIMS system periodically (as in several times a day) scans cases to see which ones have had a reportable status change, collects the minimum amount of information about those cases (case number and new status), and sends the bundle of information over to the CRIS system. That information then becomes available to customers.

There are a variety of reasons why the CLAIMS system might not send information to the CRIS system about a particular case. For example, the CLAIMS system won't scan a case file for status updates if the file is currently opened. A file would be opened if a clerk was initially entering it into the system, or an immigration officer was working on the case. They occasionally forget to close the files when they're finished working on them, which effectively prevents the file from ever being updated on the CRIS system. This apparently happens often enough that there have been a LOT of VJ members who have complained about it. Some have said their case status was never available on the CRIS system even long after their petition was approved and they got their NOA2 in the mail.

The bottom line is don't worry about it. The CRIS system is not a 100% reliable source of information.
