Hi!

My boyfriend and I are currently looking into starting the K1 process, but at the moment he is currently unemployed and living with his parents. His parents have agreed to sponser me and are okay with me living with them. Would it be in our best interest to wait until he is employed, or is having his parents as sponsers good enough for the time being? He has been unemployed for almost a year, but will be looking to get back to work if we start the K1 process.

Thank you for any information/tips/stories you can share!

Well, I would think that decision is up to both of you. I mean, if you have a co-sponsor that should be good enough to meet the requirements. Just remember that you have a lot of filing processes that cost money. You need to pay to file the I-129F, you need to pay for your medical exam and the K1 visa as well as any other documents you may need. There will also be a wedding to pay for when you enter the country.

 He still need to resume looking for employement regardless, his parents can pull being a co-sponsor at anytime before your green card is issued.
