Hey there!

I started to fill out AOS paper work today and after 5 calls to the USCIS hotline and hours spent pouring over 'instructions' I found this gem of a site. Without this site I would be frustrated beyond words, so thank you for 'being here'. :D

SO like I said, I've filled out all the paper work and tomorrow, actually later day, I will start to make copies of all the supporting documents that I will be needing, making an appointment with the civil surgeon in town and then I'll be go to go!

A little background, I entered the States in the fall of 2009 with a F-1 student visa.

I met my husband at a starbucks and October 24 was our 3rd anniversary (of meeting each other that is).

We dated for almost 3 years when in April he proposed!!!! And June 1st we got married by the Justice of Peace.

I will be graduating with my Bachelors in December and decided this week to apply for an AOS to Green card with my Husband petitioning oh my behalf.

We will be filing with the 1 step process with i 131 & i 765 along with G 1145 sometime next week!

I'm very excited but a little disappointed with the processing times at the Chicago lockbox location :( It said on the USCIS website today that the last application they processed was dated in May 28, 2012 :( Hopefully things go smoothly for us and again ....

Why don't you file I-130 and I-485 packages together if time is your concern?

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

Wife's journey.

Day 24 - 08/17/2012 - Received 4 NOA letters.
Day 27 - 08/20/2012 - 2nd Biometrics Notice received. Same day walk-in biometrics done.
Day 41 - 09/03/2012 - Email and txt notification of interview.

... waiting for Police Reports from Vietnam and current city's police dept.
11/01/2012 - RFE Police reports sent.
11/06/2012 - I-485 Approved. Card production email received.

Congrats and wishing you a smooth journey. I know most are anxious to just get everything over with and get the greencard in hand. To be honest, after receiving EAD(work permit), I didn't really care all that much about waiting around for the rest. With EAD(and AP), you can do basically the same as with the greencard, and EAD usually is approved within 90 days of receiving NOA1 hardcopy. If the interview is close to that time frame, then EAD might not be given before, however this just means a shorter wait for the interview and decision.

Why don't you file I-130 and I-485 packages together if time is your concern?

OP did do that(look in the signature).

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days
