I am shopping for airline ticket for next week. It is surprising that United Airline that was $1,100 as of yesterday is now $2,200. Anybody have any idea what is going on. In addition, any idea on the website where I can get a good deal. Now the visa has been approved, the next thing is shopping around for ticket. I am looking for good deal for Lagos through Los Angeles.

Yep, that's why I posted it quickly, those prices are unprecedented.

The next lower price is Turkish Airlines. Will be about $1,300 for one way.

Pro:

Transfer in Turkey will have baggage automatically transfered to Los Angeles.

POE will occur in LAX where you are outside waiting unlike United which will happen in Houston.

Still cheaper than any other airline.

Con:

Longer flight.

Long layover in Turkey.

You are learning that no two people who purchase a ticket on an airline pay the same price. Some international flights have the same price whether you book for tomorrow or six months from now. Some change their prices depending on the day of the week--Tuesdays are usually the cheapest. I only have to worry about peak travel seasons that raise the price from around $2200 to around $3300 RT for one person. Take a look and see if there is a price break for booking the ticket one week, two weeks, three weeks, or four week before the travel date. Route may also play a roll in the price as well. If you want the cheapest airfare, you will need to be a bit flexible with your schedule. Look at the total travel time as we typically have a 7 hour lay over in Frankfurt, but it arrives only 30 mintues after the Chicago flight and you have to go thru ORD customs.

Have fun looking and comparing,

Dave

Another "Trick" to use when airfare shopping is to clear cookies and history from your browser as many travel sites will quote a cheap fare the first time you visit them but upon returning later they will quote you a higher fare.
