Waiting for AOS - when to follow up etc.

Hi everyone!

I came here on a K1 visa and on May 11 we applied for AOS, together with AP/ EAD, and 3 weeks later it got sent to the CSC. I received the AP/ EAD after about three months and now I am only waiting for the green card which really is not that big of a problem since I already have the right to work and travel. However, since we had problems with USCIS (lost paperwork for NOA2 and that they forgot to send the paperwork for biometrics) during K1 and EAD/ AP I feel a little bit uncertain about how they will treat this last step which is also the reason why I have a hard time taking a step back and just relax.

So I was mainly wondering how other people have approached the AOS process? When can one file for a service request, contact congressman etc? I understand that it is not as specific as with NOA2 for K1 where you can call them after 6 months. We have waited for almost 6 months now, which I understand might not be that long in AOS terms.

Any reflections would be appreciated!

Olof

I put in a service request at just over 7 months and they issued the card within a couple of weeks. It seems like once you are 30 days past normal processing time you can get a reasonable response to a service request. I'd wait until you hit 6 months and then let it rip.

After trying over and over to get some answers, someone at USCIS said that they can only look into the case after four months after it was received by them -- which is normal processing time. Since we were past that time period, the gentleman looked and said it seemed the card would be issued any day now, and if we didn't hear anything within the next week or so, to call again. Let's see?

Anyways, from what we were told, you can start bugging them now!

Just got word from USCIS that my wife's green card is in the mail. We filed in April so to now that makes it almost 7 months. Its just a slow process. Took as long to get GC as it did for her to get Visa to come over from Colombia. Waiting game is all. Only thing that will slow you down more is RFE's so make sure paperwork is straight and wait.
