AOS through mom from a student visa

Pleasant day to everyone...here i am helping out a friend again i love doing this anyway here goes the questions. I have a friend who is on a student visa and would like to get her green card. Her mom just recieved citizenship. My friend would like to know the best way in doing so and how long the process would take. NB she is over 21 and not married.

I was in a similar situation. She would have to wait at least 6-7 yrs since she's over 21.

Assuming she is not from the Philippines or Mexico, it's currently a ~7 year wait for F1 classification to become current.

The process takes about 7 years when a US citizen petitions for an unmarried child over 21.

Your friend cannot AOS during the wait. She has to wait.

If she accrues any overstay she will be ineligible to AOS, as well. She has to go home in the meantime.

Also I was told that I couldn't adjust when my PD was current. I would have to go home and get immigrant visa at the embassy. If your friend is out of status, that wouldn't be a good idea...

Yes, you must maintain a valid nonimmigrant status if you wish to do an in-country adjustment of status once the priority date becomes current for an immigrant petition filed on your behalf.

The only exception is for immediate relatives of a US citizen (spouse of, parent of, minor child of, widow/er of).
