I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to get a SSN? I've read in the K-1 Visa Guide on this website that you can apply for one 2 weeks after you arrive in the US but how long after that does it take before it's actually issued? Seems like you can't do anything without that number....

Took my wife about six (6) weeks to get her SSN in the mail after her POE. This delay was entirely due to the slovenly government contractor that the Customs and "Burro" Patrol has contracted to input their I-94 database info.

Take a peek at the SSN sub-forum for more relevant threads:

I hope that our experience is the exception and not the usual practice at the "Burro" Patrol. :hehe:

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)
