Yeah, where are all the VJ lesbians? I thought 10% of the population was gay. I guess we can now defnitively say that is not the case.

Seriously wouldnt you agree? I mean I'm sure there are people that think a gay relationship is gross and abnormal. How is that different?

JP, I'm not trying to defend szsz when I am commenting(because I'm not here to defend anyone,I just agree with different people at different times, depending on the subject), but I am just adding my thoughts on this particular subject at the moment.

If someone were to say to a lesbian that their relationship is gross, it would be considered an insult. Even if that person genuinely feels it's gross, you cannot just say that to a lesbian unless you want to insult them.

I am sure we all think things that would be very insulting to say, so we may refrain from saying it or learn a new way to say it, as in "I just don't understand it."

A friend of mine always likes to say, "That was for here *points to forehead*, not here *points to mouth*", meaning sometimes we should just keep things to ourselves unless we want to insult someone.

Ok so with that said, does everyone here feel that gay relationships are a natural and normal thing? Keeping in mind that feeling any other way would be offensive to gay person who was born that way.

You can't compare a relationship with an age gap to any other kind of nontraditional (whatever that means) relationship, gay or otherwise. Distaste for that kind of May-December relationship has nothing to do with agism or any other prejudice against a group. Distaste for gay relationships DOES have to do with prejudice toward a group.

In many cases it's just fine. IMO, a lot of times it's gross. Like when men are looking for a subservient younger woman. :vomit:

Now my memory may be incorrect because this has carried on now for a while, but if I recall correctly, Sarah began with "I don't understand" and it was only after she pressed on why she didn't understand and it was insinuated she didn't understand because she was a child/young, that she actually said she thought it was gross.

Sorry, sis. Logic is not the attraction regarding why some people are entitled to be insulted. It just is. I asked for clarification and I got it. Older women/younger men relationships are lesser and not to be respected. It is as simple as that and we need to learn to live with it when we are here.

Thanks for trying.

What I feel is...that I cannot personally imagine being in a relationship with a big age gap. But since I know that there are people on VJ who are in that position, and many who have been members for awhile and are very happy even with their age gap, why would I say something that would insult those members just because I cannot comprehend it.

I also do not agree with the gay lifestyle. But I have a family friend that I've known for years who is a lesbian. She knows my beliefs because she held them at one time. Do I go up to her and say, "what you are doing is gross?" or "I could never be a lesbian because I think it's gross." even if I don't agree with it? No. Because that would just be an insult, something that cuts off further communication with that person or turns into an argument. Well, I could say that if I wanted to, but I should not be surprised with her reaction after I say it.

Now I'm not saying I think only one person is being insulting and another is not.

As Jenn said in this thread or the other, there was plenty of insulting going around from more than one member.

Its not even about comparing. Its more so about the fact that people dislike a mean comment only when it is directed at them.

And if someone says, "I don't like interfaith marriages because it's against my religion, and I don't think people should mix races because of [some Biblical quote]", well, that's not really insulting to me. And that I think is closer to the age difference case, where it's just a matter of personal beliefs and preferences.

um, was someone to rely on the above to buttress their beliefs, at best they'd be called a narrow minded bigot that subscribes to an intolerant religion.

furthermore, were someone to try to use mainstream religion as a defense of their personal beliefs, they'd be crucified in every way and the religion would distance themself from said person so quick it would make bill chasing an intern seem like a slow motion movie ;)

in short, try again.

5) worries that it's abnormal and gross

(especially in the context of #3)

hey alex. who''s your daddy?

You know what? I think it IS gross when much older men date 18-year-old Filipinas. The power thing, etc. just seem to suggest the guy can't handle a woman who is his equal. Blechhhhh. VJ is full of these relationships, and they turn my stomach as a general rule.

I don't see this as gross with the older woman scenario, which is what you frequently have in ME/NA.

oh you didn't go there. and there! you is gonna get crucified now :help:

I'd be willing to be that some people here would consider a lesbian relationship "gross and abnormal" and would not worry about what Lesbians felt while expressing that.

ooo ooo lesbians!

People might think I'm a ####### for not wearing a veil, because I'm an evil Western woman, but really, who the hell cares if people I've never met think I'm a #######? Who cares if someone thinks that a 50 year old dating a 25 year old is icky?

While it's true that one shouldn't be affected by another's comments the fact is if anyone actually made the comment "anyone who doesn't wear the veil is a #######" there would be a lashing...
