Language and Translations of Proof

Hello VJ community,

I am in the final stages of putting together my K-1 application and am a little anxious about the proof of ongoing relationship part. I have phone records showing calls within the past two years, but they are only stored for 24 months and can't access any earlier information. We've been in a relationship for 4 1/2 years, and the only early documents I could provide are emails/chats from online.

My fiance is Mexican and since I am fluent in Spanish the majority of our communication is not in English. Can I submit emails that are in Spanish? And if so, do I need to provide a translation as well?

When you say K-1 application, you are talking about the I-129f petition? If you are working on your I-129f petition, anything not in English needs to be translated for the USCIS. With that said, they don't need proof of your relationship, just proof of your meeting. If you include proof of your relationship in Spanish, they may ignore it and leave it for the embassy stage. If you are preparing proof of relationship for the interview, then I imagine you can leave it in Spanish. In Colombia, the documents can be in English or Spanish. A lot of my proof is Spanish only since my fiancee does not speak English.

I am going through the process also. I just received word my I-797 is being mailed. With that said what I understand is you have to show proof that you have met face to face in the two years prior (before) you filed your I-129F form. Dated pictures are the best proof. My soon to be wife has worked in the US for the last four years on her TN visa. That is how we met and dated for most of that time. Her company was sold in January and she moved back to Mexico. We have visited each other a number of times since she moved. I saved airline tickets and also pictures. I flew to Mexico City in July to ask her mother for permission to marry (thanfully she said yes). We took pictures during that visit. When I got back to work I sent a few emails to my co-workers telling them the good news and also had pictures pasted in the email. For proof I printed the emails which had my company's name, date, and time. On my cover letter I mentioned the proof of meeting in the prior two years and also said the emails are discoverable on my company's file server. Mind you my file has just moved to Vermont but I feel that will be enough proof. I would like to hear about other people's proof they submitted. Feel free to ask me anything and I will be happy to help if I can.

Ok, Thanks for the speedy responses! I am doing the original submission of the I-129F. I definitely have proof of meeting in person with plane ticket stubs, passport stamps, and we lived together for 13 months in mexico last year. I guess I won't worry so much about including early emails in this packet.

My sister has gone through this process with her husband and she included a bunch of emails and phone bills, but her husband speaks english, so I just wanted to check in with others in a bilingual relationship. Thanks again!
