Question about tax returns, marriage certificate

I see lots of people send copies of their marriage certificate and previous tax returns along with the N400 forms.

My wife and I sent our forms without adding any tax returns or marriage certificate and got our biometrics appointment notices already. Neither of us is a US citizen so to my knowledge we weren't required to send them but I want a sanity check here. They would have asked for them before scheduling our bio apt. if they were required, right? I thought these are required if N400 application is sent based on marriage with a US citizen which does not apply in our case.

Am I right?

I think if USCIS wants to see any other records, they'll send you a "yellow letter" before you get your interview letter, telling you to bring them to the interview.

Others may chime in with more info on that.

I'm waiting for interview (over 5 years LPR, no marriage tie needed although I was married to a Canadian citizen when I came here, ex-spouse's employer brought us here). I have marriage, divorce and tax records at the ready, in case.

I got a yellow letter, just asked me to bring my driver's license. I'll bring it all... "just in case."

Marriage to a US citizen gives a so-called three year marriage privilege. But since neither of you are US citizens, you have to apply for the five year, all that evidence is not required for the five year.

No law either that an immigrant married to a US citizen has to apply for the three year, can wait five years and skip all that redundant evidence.

An act of congress in 1927 decided that an immigrant married to a US citizen is a better citizen, so was knocked down to three instead of five years. Good thing the USCIS doesn't require a perspective US citizen to understand our tax system. With over a thousand IRS forms and 13,000 pages of tax laws, instead of three years, would be more like thirty years.

My husband is married to a US Citizen (me) but since he has been here over five years we did not send the tax returns and marriage certificate. If they want to see if we can bring to the interview, but it's my understands with the five year filing all you to send as documentation is a copy of the front and back of your Green Card.

Well, that green card copy, the application, two passport photos they won't use, and the most important thing, the check.

If you have a hard-nosed IO, may also want you to bring proof you paid a 7 buck parking ticket fine.

Oh, and your state's driver's license or a state ID as further identification. Even though the only way you can get one of those, least in my state, is showing your DMV your green card.
