Halloween GREED, kids don't go for "redistribution".

Not sure what you mean when you say it has been going on for "years" does that mean 5-10 years or a hundred years?

Making wealthy people pay a higher percentage is not "redistribution".

When we commonly refer to "redistribution" we are talking about taking money from some.. and giving it to others straight out.

Building a library in the Low income part of town is not really "redistribution" as much as handing out cash or the equivalent is.

Redistribution of income namely from middle class America to the elite. Middle class America income has stagnated versus the elite over the past 10 to 20 years. The elite have become stinking rich and the average American family now needs 2 income earners to survive. I could go on but I have to work in the morning so I can pay all my taxes and bills. I have to help feed the elite.

It's amazing just how flat and mentally inept the right really is.

Just a quick story from tonight: After taking my daughter tick-or-treating this evening, we came home and there was candy left at the house that we had bought to give out to neighborhood kids. My daughter actually thought it was a better idea and more fun to give out that candy than keeping it for herself. She had a pretty good haul and didn't think she needed any more than what she had collected. So we kept the lights on another 30 min for neighborhood kids to come by and pick up treats. And it was my 6 year old daughter in her little costume handing it out to them. God damn liberal that she is.

Well we can't say if she is a Liberal for sure yet.

As you explain the story she had more than she needed and so she took pleasure in sharing what SHE had to share. Sounds pretty Right wing to me. (if you need stats, let me know)

I'll tell you when you can start to worry (she might be an incorrigible LIB) is when she wants to decide for her friends and class mate if THEY have to much and she then sets out to A) removes what they have and B) decides who gets it.

This is what Rommney did with some of his wealth also...Give it away. A personal decision to help other people. The liberal in you would just take it from her and give it away. Even as she protested.

Plus, you have to remember, it's okay for the girl to give her candy to her school friends; but if she gives candy to her friends from church then it no longer counts as being helpful or generous.

Many of the elitists donate something to get their tax breaks and to make themselves feel better.

Depends if the church forced it.

If you would ever donate to charity you would find you are also allowed to take the same tax breaks. A first for everything. Try it sometime.

Define "forced." Last time I checked, no church in the US has any real power to force people to do anything any more than Walmart can force you to buy cheap Chinese t-shirts.

In this context it means complying with your religious or faith requirements whatever they might be.

Only works if you itemize dedcutions. That takes roughly two out of three taxpayers out of the equation since only about a third of all taxpayers itemizes deductions.

Then there is the relative benefit which calls your assertion of the same benefit being available to John Average into question. If you're in the 15% bracket (this is where median income earners are), then every dollar of charity is worth $0.15 in tax reduction. If you are in the 35% tax bracket, then you get more than twice that - $0.35 - in tax relief on every dollar you donate. Put differently, a dollar of charitable giving costs John Average, well, one dollar. If John Average itemizes deductions, that dollar worth of a donation effectively costs him $0.85. Mitt and his buddies only spend $0.65 for every dollar they donate. That's hardly the same.

Kinda like the cop saying I was only driving nice because he was following me.. What were my options? Speed or not speed.. why bust me down for doing the right thing?

Most everyone takes full advantage of the system offered.. NPR recently ran a story Why Do Taxpayers Subsidize Farmers' Insurance? these farmers were gathered in a library to learn about filing for claims to get money for this years bad crops. Almost every single person in the room was a millionaire - most of them multi-millionaires. Read the story - they are feeling a little guilty about taking the money but to quote one of the main people in the story:

"I have an aversion to it," says Jim Traub, a corn and bean farmer in Fairbury, Illinois. "But you're not going to turn it down."

.. of course he isn't going to turn it down.. none of us would. Do not be mad at people for taking advantage of the system.. Fix the system.. Get rid of all deductions and loopholes.

What does that have to do with my rebuttal of an obviously wrong claim made by another poster?

Actually I was replying to something completely different in another thread and came back and cut and pasted it into this thread by mistake.. blush.gif
