Jul 5 - Receipt date for I-130 petition for my over 21 brother and his wife (both in the UK)

2024

Feb 23 - Sent USCIS a message asking for a processing update

May 6 - Received an email response saying things were progressing normally but that waiting times might be longer

Aug ?? - mailed I-130 packages for both mother and father
Sept 10 - NOA1 date
Sept 16 - NOA1s received

2014

Feb 25, 26 & 28 - got emails saying that the cases had been transferred to another office, then to my local office, and then just transferred and are being processed

Mar 17 - got email, attached to one case number only, saying that my A number was changed relating to the I-130 filing

I applied on November 2012 but I didn’t know about this forum, that’s why I have not completed the timetable.

I’m scheduled for the Oath ceremony on June, so do my wife and daughter. We’re very excited to be US Citizens soon!

I've found this forum very useful so maybe my experience can be helpful for someone.

I applied with my wife and my 18 years old daughter. (I have another daughter, she is 14). Since my income is low, first I applied for a waiver based on my income and also because my daughters are in Medicaid. I send all the documents with the 3 applications and after a week or so the waiver was approved and the N-400 process started. BTW I live in Atlanta, Georgia.

I had three concerns about my application:

1. I was wondering if the waiver and the low income could work against us. It’s clear now that it is a separate thing. I wasn’t even asked on the interview about that.

2. My family had a trip of 181 days outside US. Actually it was the first trip as permanent residents and the first one we made before we moved to the US definitely. I had all the documents that proved that after that trip we stayed on the US. We got the green cards in our country, so we needed a time in order to quit our jobs and sell everything.
The officer didn’t ask neither of us about that trip.

3. After I send the application, I realized I made a mistake. I had had two traffic tickets years ago and I didn’t declare them. That freaked me out when I found several posts saying I must have declared those. I had two options on the interview, to wait the officer asks me about it, or to say him in advance I made that mistake. I opted for the second one. I told him the tickets were less than $500, not alcohol related and I wasn’t arrested. He only asked me if I paid the tickets and nothing happened.

We had the interviews the same day. April 22nd.

The officer that interviewed me was extremely polite and very nice so I was 100% comfortable all the time. My wife and my daughter had their interviews with another officer. According to them, she was professional and very serious and they felt a little bit intimidated. (they were interviewed separately, it was a coincidence the officer was the same)

We did well on the interviews.

After two days my status on the USCIS webpage was updated and waiting for being scheduled for the Oath Ceremony. I received another update two weeks later, saying I was scheduled and now I’m waiting for the ceremony on June 5th.

My wife and daughter had to wait 3 weeks for an update (they were worried about that), but this one was the final one and they are scheduled for June 10th.

Now I’m not sure what to do for my younger daughter. Should I apply for the N-600 or should I get her passport? I’ve read the second one is easier, take less time and it’s less expensive and has the same result: A document that certify the citizenship.

The best to everybody who is in this process!

Thanks for sharing your experience Javier. Don't be afraid to add to our timeline or better yet, update your VJ timeline as most people will search there when looking for stats and so many people going through the citizenship process don't bother to update them. It's really a shame.

Congrats as well on nearing the end of your journey. As for your younger daughter, from what I understand, it's a lot easier and a lot cheaper yes, to simply apply for the passport. Go ahead and do that. However, I have also heard that later on down the line, should your daughter apply for college or financial aid, then those offices often also request the naturalization certificate. So, while it may not be important right now, in a few years, it may be very important and you don't want to then delay her college while paperwork is gathered.

As I said, this is just what I've heard; I have no kids of my own. It was actually told to us at my Oath Ceremony so I consider the source pretty good. Let us know how things turn out.

Thanks mozplay on good wishes for the interview.

It was all very anticlimactic. I spent 50 minutes waiting for the interview and was done with it within 15 minutes tops. I brought along all the evidence, a bag full, and the only thing he asked me for was my green card and passport. It was all so quick that I now feel almost cheated ;). Almost :). Apparently, I'll be getting my oath ceremony letter within 15 to 30 days but I'm not holding my breath for it to arrive in that time frame. Everything seems to be moving very slowly in Orlando :).

Nyla, I had to wait for my interview letter for over 4 months. Didn't bother with infopass or contacting the senator as I was in no hurry. Currently, processing times for Orlando are 7.9 months, which is still longer (amazingly) than it's for the NYC!!!! I know this waiting is annoying but try to be patient. Thanks mozplay on good wishes for the interview.

It was all very anticlimactic. I spent 50 minutes waiting for the interview and was done with it within 15 minutes tops. I brought along all the evidence, a bag full, and the only thing he asked me for was my green card and passport. It was all so quick that I now feel almost cheated wink.png. Almost smile.png. I read about Oath Ceremony letter being being handed out after the interview too (I think in August thread) but that hasn't been the case when I was there yesterday. During the 50 minutes that I waited to be called in, number of people came out and none of them waited. Some were men, some were women, some looked happy, some not so much :). But nobody set down and waited. The interviewing officer specifically said to wait for the letter in the mail, 15 - 30 days. So I'll have to wait and see. I'm an old pro at waiting by now tongue.png
