NBC VS Local Field Office

USC citizen living abroad.Filed in September,NOA1 says routed to California,after a few days another notice of transfer-transfered to NBC.On the Oct 3 USCIS web site shows that the application is being processed at a USCIS office.Nothing since....

I-130 sent at Chicago lockbox (August 2012).

Recvd 2 NOA1-routed to CSC w/ WAC receipt # and a transfer notice to NBC.

Recvd an update that it is being processed at a USCIS office.

Since I lived in Memphis, I assume that my case is in USCIS Memphis but when I checked online,the Memphis office does not process I-130 petitions.

Then I used my zipcode to locate a USCIS office, it says Texas Service Center.

I am totally confused now!

Thanks for the cooperation guys! The more answers we get the more we can maybe understand this. So far from your replies it seems like hit or miss...doesn't matter where you file from sometimes you get the notice that it's in a local office sometimes you don't, most of us can't see it in my case status but some can...wow talk about confusing.

I can guess my local uscis office from where my husband lives. But when I check online they don't do I-130 petitions. (I also can't check my MSC# online but honestly I'm not that worried about that.... As far as I can tell it was unreliable at best when you can check it.) I have the feeling that local offices are doing the I-130s anyhow because their bosses said, we're busy here, take some work load and let's see if this works. They did say in the alert on the USCIS's website that they would not be saying what field office if any that the petition went to.

Waiting sucks. But there isn't much else to do for 5 months but wait and hope.

No notice of transfer to field office

I did however call today and was able to get a status update. Was told we are still in initial review at the NBC and that we should expect approval in 4 months if all goes smooth.

Effect on Customers

As a result of these changes, customers may receive transfer notices, requests for evidence (RFE) notices, notices of decision, or other correspondence from a different USCIS location.

Stand-Alone Immediate Relative I-130s will be transferred from the Service Center to the National Benefits Center (NBC), and then routed to the appropriate Field Office. Customers will receive a notice indicating the case was transferred to the NBC, but that notice will not indicate the final local Field Office location.

So the way I read that, means no one will be notified of the actual local field office location, but we can speculate by looking it up.

re: status updates. I learned (by calling) that the CSRs that I talk with cannot see my casefile at all, in their system.

The 3 ISOs I spoke with, they could see my casefile in 'the system'.

So, if it helps you, get an ISO, inquire.

Filed in Sept to the Phoenix lockbox and sent to CAC got a receipt number with WAC...few days later I was transferred to NBC but still have WAC#.... when I check online it says it is being processed at a USCIS office.....Last touched Sept 29th and states initial review.
