NBC VS Local Field Office

Hey guys...

It seems like some of us are getting notices that the cases have been transferred to a local field office, and some of us aren't...I'm trying to figure out what this means if anything.

I think it would be a good idea if we all write what notices we got from USCIS, what was said in them, and if we filed from abroad or the petitioner filed from within the states. That way we can maybe try and guess if cases filed from abroad will be processed at the NBC, or transferred to a field office, and if it's just a fluke that some got notices and some didn't...you know what I mean...sort of a confusing situation.

I'll start...We filed from abroad(my wife being the petitioner living with me here for the past 3+ years), and only got this one single message:

Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number XXXXXXXXXX. With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status of your case using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status.

Says nothing about being transferred to a field office afterwards. Also, we have yet to be able to check the status online, I wonder...have any of you been able to?

Thanks!

Good idea! Because I'm quite confused about it right now. Seems like we're in the same boat, my wife (USC petitioner living abroad) applied from Holland and we got the same message:

Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number MSCXXXXXXXXXX. With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status of your case using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status.

We received I-797 about 3 weeks ago. My Case Status doesn't work for us. Did your case number also start with MSC?

Hello! I got the same message today. It seems we have been routed to the msc which I think is bad luck. From what I have seen in the quick checks this morning. (please please someone correct me if I'm wrong). Also all of the other cases I could find was where the petitioner is living in the US. I am living abroad with my husband. We are just like you and your wife, Ori. I wonder if we were both sent there because we are both from Israel... Anyways I think we will be transferred again to a field office.

Let us know when you get your noa2, I am about a month behind you.

Good luck to us all!

Also, I am not able to check online either

Yes, mine is also MSC. I got my I-797 exactly 7 days after the email, so no problems there. But I have seen people mention that they received another notice afterwards, that their case was routed to a local field office, whereas it seems that people who file from abroad do not receive that. This is what I am trying to figure out. So far 3 out of 3, the 3 of us filed from abroad and received the same message. Is there anyone who did NOT file from abroad and received this message? Come on peeps lets get this thing rolling.

On the USCIS home page, check case status:

Our case number begins with WAC

The I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation. USCIS reviews the applicant's/petitioner's criminal history, determines if there are national security concerns that need to be addressed, and reviews the application/petition for fraud indicators.

If you have filed an I-485, I-589, I-751, N-400, I-90, I-821, I-131 or I-765, you can expect to receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints and/or photographs taken. The timing of your appointment is determined by the number of applicants ahead of you that also need a biometric appointment. We try to schedule biometric appointments as quickly as possible and in most cases you will receive your appointment notice within 30 days of submitting your application. We will send your appointment notice approximately 14 days ahead of your scheduled appointment. It is important that you keep this appointment. If absolutely necessary, you can request that your appointment be rescheduled however, please be aware that rescheduling may delay the processing of your application. Please follow the instructions on your appointment notice if you need to reschedule. Occasionally, you may receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints taken when you have filed a form other than those listed above. In these situations, you may receive your appointment notice more than 30 days after submitting your application or petition.

On the 2 NOA's

First received date was September 26, 2012.

Notice date 28, 2012: Basically our NOA1 saying that our case is received and is in process.

I sent my I-130 to the Phoenix lockbox from here in Las vegas, Then received N.O.A.1 stating that it was transferred to N.B.C. about 3 weeks ago. I have received nothing saying anything about a transfer to a local office. I have an MSC number and it does not show up on "case status" button at N.B.C. but I have read that people have been told by N.B.C. that it can take up to 45 days to show up.

I am the USC and filed from abroad(Nigeria) during our honeymoon( we were quite eager to get the ball rolling considering the wait period). i did indicate i live in the U.S except for one spot that asked where i was at the time of filing.

anyway after much delay by NY customs, USPS delivered our package on 10/12. We did not get any text or email from USCIS even though we used the form 1145. our hard copy NOA 1 came in on 10/22 and indicates 10/12 as the receipt date and 10/15 as the notice date. it also informed us that our case is at NBC and we have MSC case #. I was immediately able to see our case status online using that number at www.uscis.gov check my case status and it states "initial review"

I130 sent to Chicago, transferred to NBC and now on the website it says ours is a USCIS office. Reciept had always started with WAC. Our local office would be Dallas but just says...The I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made'.
