I notice no-one responded to the ‘futile care’ example I pointed out – a very real example of W’s record of performance vs. his public stance on a whole range of ‘pro-life’ issues.

Thats because no one cares about that. I know I don't.

Indeed – but surely if you (and I’m not saying you do) feel passionately about those issues, and I know you do about one at least – stem cell research, the existence of such legislation signed into law by W (as Texas governor) would appear to call into question his resolve and general honesty on ALL of those issues. But I’m sure there’s another interpretation that I’m overlooking.

I am not in opostition of stem cell research. I just don't think the government should be paying for embryonic stem cell research. If a private company wants to pay a woman for her eggs and then do research then more power to them. There is no conflict there. I oppose abbortion also. But as long as the courts say it is legal then they have the right. But I also have the right to not want my tax dollars to go for it. I am not in favor of euthinatia. But I also don't think that someone that helps someone kill themselves,I.E. doctor prescribed pills, should be charged for that.

I just wanted to point out Gary, that Erekose didn't say that you opposed stem cell research, just that you felt passionately about the issue.

I believe the point being made is that continuity in the message being given by politicians is important and that even if you or I don't care about a single issue it doesn't mean that it doesn't count toward the collective pool of credibility when taking such measures. (That comment is non-partisan by the way. :) )

They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, tape wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the country side of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.

I might add that this all turned out later to be total fabrications.
You might also add that you took this statement out of context making it sound as if Kerry was the one giving the actual account of the events while he really seemed to have recited what 150 other servicemen had testified to previously in a different setting:
I would like to talk, representing all those veterans, and say that several months ago in Detroit, we had an investigation at which over 150 honorably discharged and many very highly decorated veterans testified to war crimes committed in Southeast Asia, not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command.

It is impossible to describe to you exactly what did happen in Detroit, the emotions in the room, the feelings of the men who were reliving their experiences in Vietnam, but they did. They relived the absolute horror of what this country, in a sense, made them do.

He is merely relating what other servicemen testified to in an earlier investigation. He's not making any claims of presenting his account of anything. But it sure makes for good propaganda to take what he said out of context.

Thanks for playing and be sure to try again! ;)

None of that was out of context. It was taken word for word from his testamony before congress. The man hates our servespeople and has demonstrated that time and time again.

Thanks for playing and try again.

I'm sorry. Forgot that you have trouble reading. Quoting something word for word doesn't exclude the opportunity to quote out of context. That's what you happened to do.

The testimony he reports about in this particular case is the testimony of 150 other servicemen given earlier in a different investigation. How does his reporting on the testimony of others make him the guy that hates our troops - and therefore himself as he was part of "our troops"?

Never forget that "our troops" includes Sen Kerry. It doesn't include President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Scty of Defense Rumsfeld, Karl Rove or any other of the war hungry neo-cons that have driven American foreign policy against the wall and our credibility on any international issue in the ground. Never forget that. ;)

How can anyone take you so seriously with that cute little baby girl in your signature. Instead of debating with you I just want to goo goo gaa gaa at Naomi. :luv::lol::innocent:

It's his evil plot to win every debate/war here! She is a little cutie, isn't she? :)

Kerry's joke:

"Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting stuck in a war in Iraq."

What he meant to say:

"Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."

That is what I was saying he meant.

I know and I saw your post. I wanted to make sure the fact was made clear so anybody, even a President, could understand. ;)

really, that's what he meant to say?? hmmm, from the senators own office...

Kerry told the students that if they studied hard they could do well, but if they didn't "you get stuck in Iraq." His office said he neglected to add the punch line: "Just ask President Bush."

you dems just can't ever stick to the facts can you. why is it so hard for you libs to say that kerry f*cked up on this? why are you trying to defend something so reprehensible. instead you just keep trying to spin it so it won't sound as if he was dissing the troops. whatever he meant to say is irrelevant at this point, he should still apologize to our troops for what he did say, and then explain what he meant to say. but he just can't do that for some reason, wonder why.....could it be he really meant what he said?????

Do you have the transcripts from Kerry's whole speach not taken out of context or a link to them somewhere? I'm curious to to see how this was all taken out of context for myself.

Sen. Hillary Clinton ... joined the chorus of Democrats criticizing Sen. John Kerry for what the former presidential candidate has called a joke gone awry.

“What Sen. Kerry said was inappropriate,” she said.

Asked if Kerry should apologize, President Bush and other members of both parties have said, Clinton said “I heard he said he was sorry.”

There's a bit of ambiguity in that statement - it doesn't matter what he said, but he should apologise anyway and explain what he mean't to say (what he mean't to say - being "irrelevant").

Just messing with you - I agree with you that he should apologise and clarify/modify his statement. I think someone did post an article a few pages ago where he did 'clarify' - of course with the electioneering and grandstanding going on - anything he does say will likely be drowned out and ignored anyway. After all they have to find some sort of counterbalance to the Foley story - I guess this is it. Oh and not forgetting that other guys 'racy' novels.

(New Jersey) Democratic Senate President Richard Codey today joined a chorus of Republicans in accusing U.S. Sen. John Kerry of making "offensive" remarks about U.S. troops and called on him to quickly apologize before the flap hurts Democrats in next week's elections.

"I think it's offensive. What he said was if you are over there fighting for your country, you may not be that smart. Yeah, that's offensive," Codey said in Orange, where he was campaigning with U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, who is locked in a tight race with Republican state Sen. Tom Kean Jr.

"What is going through the man's head? Apologize! Get it over with! Let the Democrats get back to banging the war. If I were Menendez, I would call him up on the phone and say, 'Hey knucklehead, apologize, get it over with,'" said Codey, a former governor and one of the most prominent Democrats yet to criticize Kerry. "'You made a stupid remark. That can happen to anybody. Apologize, and then it's over with."
