I voted today.
Excellent!

I got my sample ballot today. I already know who I'm voting for. But I was too lazy to do the early ballot paperwork so I will have to go in on election day.

Early ballot paperwork? Here, as in TN or OH, you just walk into one of the early voting stations of your county and vote. Bring a photo ID and that's all you need. Then you vote. Early ballot paperwork? My goodness...

There's a form to mail in. If I had to fill it out, it would take 2 minutes. 3 if I had to change pens mid-way. But like I said, I'm lazy LOL.

MD is traditionally a dem-stronghold state where a jadu (for non-desis, straw broom) with a label "democratic party" could easily get elected

Have you heard the urban legend in India where some small regional party registered a donkey under a party and then went on to win?

Caligula apparently made a horse a Roman Senator. Apparently.

Subtle genius at work there ;)

I think there are going to be a lot of surprises next tuesday. 6 months ago it was a lock for the dems to win both houses by a landslide and now most of the polls say the senate isn't going anywhere and the house is to close to call. I seem to remember the last 2 elections the polls were totaly wrong also. Gonna be interesting next week. Get ready for a protracted time of lawsuits and challenges.

I was hoping Dems take over one or both, since gridlock is good, but then it was pointed out that if Dems take over the Presidents immigration bill will probably be passed, so I'm pulling for the Republicans to hang on.

Frankly, when I heard Schumer is gonna take a serious look at redoing SOX, I kinda hoped Dems would take at least one house.

I am more worried about any new supreme court appointments that may come up in the next few years. Other than that and the immigration bills I think gridlock would be a good thing.

However things turn out, no one is going to get everything they want.

Harriet Miers?

No, the worry would be more along the lines of being forced into nominating a justice whos conservative credentials are suspect. Souter, for example.

The last gridlock helped tremendously getting the federal budget back in order. That's one of the most important things that need to happen. Besides, there need to be some checks and balances and the Reps have proven over the past six or so years that they are incapable of asserting Congress' constitutional powers vs. the executive.

"Liberal" is worse than cronyism? Especially when the candidates qualifications come second to her partisan loyalties?

IMO, no. It's better. But in general establishment conservatives will, I believe, prefer a crony who can be relied on to toe the party line to a Ginsburg liberal.

Which is funny because, despite the adminstrations best efforts, the Supreme court has burned them on a number of issues.
