Why do you think they put so much emphasis on preserving open space and maintain high property taxes in precisely the areas where all the rich NE democrats live? Because they don't want to ruin their pretty little neighborhoods. The population is increasing so it's clear the new developments have to happen somewhere, but they can't happen where they live. You see, things like this are why I did not vote in the last presidential elections, My choices were Kerry or Bush.

Kerry did not impress me at all and I felt he would not be a good or even slightly reasonable president.

Bush, I KNEW would also not be a good or reasonable president as he had shown the previous 4 years!

I remember Mr. and Mrs. Wealthy Liberal stopping someone from building a windmills where they lived because it would block the view. Save the enviroment unless it causes them an inconvenience.

Problem is - now its been framed as 'dissin da twoops', that's what people remember. Like most things political the 'presentation' becomes more important than the sentiment behind it. In that sense he has no choice but to apologise.

I would have as much problem with this if it wasn't 110% certain that the Bush administration would cry foul - were someone to seize on some similar remarks by GWB or ####### Cheney. Perhaps the Dems should start calling Bush on his verbal gaffes - its not as if they're difficult to find.

Then again - judging by the tone of this (and the previous presidential campaign) we're not electing 'nice' people.

I don't think that's true at all. I think the problem is that no medium has the reach TV does. And TV is expensive.

Especially in vote-rich media markets like NYC.

And you can't get that exposure without first making "Faustian" deals with corporate sponsors and lobbyists. So by the time you are ready to run for election you are already iredeemably corrupt.
