Well of course imposed by others, an actor has a certain amount of box-office draw, when a person is known to be Gay, it limits their draw as a leading roll playing a hetro part specifically.

It's not that they dislike the actor.... it just is harder to create a believable character in that given roll.... which is what I said -It limits their opportunity to play certain rolls.

If we're talking about actors: an actor is an actor - they are paid to play a role. I didn't believe Leonard Nimoy was really a Vulcan - but he played one convincingly. I knew that Sean Penn was not really gay, yet he played the role quite convincingly. Jane Lynch, in 40 year old virgin, played a sexually harassing boss. Neil Patrick Harris (as someone else pointed out) plays a ladies man on a hit TV show.

With regards to Anderson Cooper - he's not an actor.

People vote via ticket sales, absolutely. If the actor is talented and plays their role convincingly (regardless of sexual orientation) then the paying public will respond.

None that I know of. In fact I never watched another Rock Hudson movie after he ...came out so to say. I tried once but I can't do it.
