Hi Guys, I am not sure if I posting my question in the right forum, if I am not I am sorry, I was recently approved and my green card arrived a couple of months ago, I want to start working as soon as possible, How do I put my resume together? I have never worked in the states, do I list my past jobs in my country? I am not sure how to apply for a job. Thanks

There's plenty of information/examples on the internet about it. Just type "How to write a resume" on Google. For example:

http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Resume

Yes, list your past jobs in your country, it is part of your work experience.

You should also look on how to write a Cover letter (which is to express your motivation and why and how you would be a good fit for the company you will be applying for).

Good luck! :)

I posted an example cover letter and résumé in this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=370301&view=findpost&p=5407172

It's in MS Word and will allow you to add your information based on your situation. As noted in that thread, I would also recommend visiting an employment agency (e.g. a temp agency or even a career center at a community college or university in your area) so they can help you further refine your résumé and ensure your employable qualities are highlighted and the spelling and grammar are correct.

The cover letter template is fairly standard, but again allows you to customize the content based on the position you're seeking. You'll always want to tailor the letter to call out key qualities in line with what the employer is seeking. Good luck!
