Does anyone know what will happen if I did not submit the I-693 and Medical Examination results with my initial AOS package? I sent everything off today to the Chicago Lock Box I-130, 485, 131, 765, and 864 but I did not include the I-693 since I had a friend who is going through the process right now said I will get a notice from USCIS saying I need to complete that but I'm reading on here that I should have sent it off. Should we just book an appointment now for the Medical exam and wait for USCIS to send me an RFE?

Husband was switching from Student Visa to Permanent Resident (in his last semester of his program)

10/29/2012 Sent Package (I-130, 485, 765, 864, and 131) to Chicago Lockbox via Priority Mail

11/1/2012 Arrived at Chicago Lock Box

11/6/2012 Received 4 Acceptance text messages and emails with receipt number

11/7/2012 Filing Fee Checks Cashed

11/12/2012 ASC Appointment Notice

12/06/2012 Biometrics Done in LA

01/02/2013 Received notice for Interview Appointment on 02/05/2013 (notice said to get medical complete as well)

01/22/2013 Received EAD card

01/26/2013 Went to USCIS approved Physician to complete medical, picked up results on 02/02/2013

02/05/2013 Interview at USCIS, Gave office medical results, Approved pending Affidavit of Support (originally I only included my mothers, but that day they said I had to include one as well even though I'm not working)

02/06/2013 Dropped off my Affidavit of Support to the office in LA, Finally Approved!!

02/14/2013 Received official letters

02/16/2013 Husband's Green Card Came in the Mail!!

Overall the process until approval took about 3 months. Not bad and didn't even have a lawyer.

You will get an RFE for it, that is guaranteed.

You can either wait for the RFE to arrive and then book the medical, or just do it now. They are valid for one year so there is really no reason to wait.

And yes, you should have sent it in your original submission.

For some reason people confuse biometrics with a medical, and I for one don't understand why. USCIS will send you a notice to take biometrics, which is a fingerprint and photograph. Biometrics is not a medical. For an AOS case, the medical is to be done by a USCIS-designated civil surgeon and sent with the initial package. What's done is done, but maybe this information will help people in the future.

Anyway, you will get a RFE for the medical. You can do it now and have the results ready to send out when you get the RFE. It will slow down your case somewhat. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
