We signed up for Vonage Philippines about six weeks ago. It has been brilliant. $30 a month and my wife can call ANY Globe or T M line in the Philippines, land or cell. Unlimited minutes, anytime. Also comes with unlimited calls to over 60 countries, and we just use it as our main phone line. Call quality has been good. A few disconnects, and she just calls back.

I had Ooma, and this is working much better, and I love having to never track minutes anymore.

Obi and MJ are fine, as are Viber and Tango. But once your fiancé or wife is here, something like Vonage trumps them all by FAR in that she'll (or he) will be able to call nearly anyone in the Ph. And if they don't have a Globe or T M sim card, they can get one for like 30 pesos.

And no contract, so you can always cancel it if you're unhappy. But so far, we are loving it. Makes my wife feel so much better to know she can call her friends and family there anytime, and never have to worry about the bill.

The Ooma device looks like it hooks up the same as the OBI. I couldn't find anything on their site for the sim cards you mention, do you have a link? Their site mentions international calling but the fees are higher than with Google-voice & OBI.

Those Ooma unites are spendy at $200, the OBI is under $50.

Does Vonage require an internet? and also Is vonage limited to globe or TM? Smart for some reason is better in our area. Internet is like 56k modem so MJ is out of the question.

We have been using Vonage World for almost 2 years now and we are quite happy with it. The reception is very clear unlike MJ. It's a little steep at around $35/monthly including taxes and fees compared to other providers but its worth it. It does not need to be connected to PC and worked well with my fiance's internet provider which is Globelines Wimax.

The OBI seems to be worth checking out. For now, vonage is quite enough for us.

I had magic jack for a few years and it was never that great. Now I use the OBI with googlevoice and it works flawless along with great voice quality. You couldn't pay me to use the magic jack now.

The OBI device plugs into the router/modem so no computer is needed, but you need at least DSL speed for the internet.
