Hello,

So I' vejust been reading about marriage certificates and copies etc etc and I just want to confirm a couple of things.

I do not need to send in a certifed copy, only a photocopy of the actual marriage certificate (or photocopy of the certifed copy).

Will I actually get a real marriage certificate? I'm worried that I'm going to have to wait for the certifed copy (4-6 weeks) and send a photovcopy of that in. I'm not entirely sure how these things work!

ANy help would be much appreciated, I'm leaving to get married in 2 hours!

Wish me luck!

Maria x

You won't get your marriage certificate today. The officiant will have to record the marriage license at the appropriate office in order for that office to issue a 'certificate'.

Here in my county, it took just a few days for the marriage certificate to come in the mail. It really depends on the procedures in your clerk's office.

Correct and Godspeed.

Did you get married at your courthouse?

That's pretty sweet if they are able to give out a certified copy immediately after the ceremony. That'd would be very rare and not available for most folks.

On my RFE I got from CSC regarding the so called missing marriage certificate it stated the following:

"K1/MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE: Please submit a copy of your marriage certificate indicating that you have married your United States citizen fiance(e) within 90 days of your admission into the United States as a K-1 nonimmigrant. If the marriage occurred in the United States, the document must show that the marriage was registered and recorded with the county, state or civil authorities. If the marriage occurred outside the United States, the marriage certificate must be accompanied by a certified English translation if the document is in a language other than English."

So it does state a copy of your marriage certificate but make sure what ever your supplying does show that it was registered with the county, state or civil authorities ... I wouldn't expect that what you receive today would already be registered as the marriage has to take place before it can be registered ...

It will depend upon how you are getting married. If you marry at the court house or other civil authority, then usually you can obtain a certified marriage certificate immediately. It is not a problem to get extra copies as long as you are willing to pay for it. Costs will vary from $8 to $15 depending upon legal jurisdiction.

We got married at the courthouse (my wife's preference) and had our certificates and marriage in under an hour. Then we had the remainder of the day to enjoy each other and had dinner with friends.

We are getting married at a courthouse, to get certified copies it apparently costs $15, but it doesn't say anything else. I'm really hoping there's a quick way of getting a certificate!

The only reason I want to get this done quickly is because I want to get AOS and AP ASAP. IF I sent in the AOS package with AOS and EAD, would an RFE for the AOS part slow everything down or just AOS?

I'm not too bothered about the green card, would just be nice to know I'm allowed to leave the country and to be able to work!!

No, church ceremony at Novi, MI (Oakland County) on 2006/4/15; we'd gotten the licence from Pontiac on 4/13.

That's pretty sweet if they are able to give out a certified copy immediately after the ceremony. That'd would be very rare and not available for most folks.

The majority of counties consider ordained clergy practicing in the county to have civil authority to perform marriage. Also, Oakland County's licences come as a three-parter--so the pastor was able to give us one of those (all the copies have a gold seal on them).

Yes, an RFE for the I485 delays processing of concurrently filed interim benefits.

For speed of processing, send the AOS, EAD and AP in one envelope to the Chicago lockbox. Expect to wait at least 60 to 90 days for the AP and EAD.

hi ninamyers!

we got married last thursday and received a marriage certificate that says "customer copy" after the civil ceremony. is that the one you used to submit your AOS? by the way, we were married in LA county. we paid for 2 certified copies of our marriage cert ($13 bucks each) but it seems like we won't be getting it until 3-4 weeks after.

i feel so silly not asking whether they have same day service at that time. my family and friends were waiting for us to go to brunch already that i completely forgot to ask. i tried calling but it's so hard to talk to anyone on the phone.

so yeah...my only question is...which marriage certificate did you use for AOS?

btw, my fiance still has not received his SSN card. it's been over 10 business days since.

Fate is building a bridge of chance for the one you love...

Hi!

I did indeed send the one that says customer copy on it, I'm hoping that's alright, I can't see why it wouldn't be. We got married in LA county too (forgotten the name of the place now, it was quite nice though...

maybe it was the same place??)

I'm hoping my SSN turns up soon, I've had offers from temp agencies but they can't go any further with anything until I have it! Maybe today...
