Really? I think you are ignoring the fact that the price of oil is set on a world market and any future contribution of shale oil will be puny. The increased fuel economy standards Obama has pushed more than offsets any potential supply of oil from that reserve. And as long as that oil is still there it is, at least, a hedge against future shortages.

Some people on the right have made much noise over the fact that gasoline prices have increased under Obama. If you look at the actual reasons this has happened (in the real world, not right wing fantasy land) you will realize this is reflective of a good thing. Gasoline prices were even higher under GWB in 2008 before his policies tanked the US economy and plunged us into a deep recession taking much of the world along for the ride. This huge slowdown in the world's economy resulted in a dramatic decrease in the demand for oil and prices fell to less than half by the time Obama took office. As the economy has improved so has the demand for oil and therefore the prices are again nearing what they were before W drove us over the cliff. Claiming that a new North American field will significantly drop the price of oil here ignores reality. What might really reduce the price at the pump would be Rmoney's huge tax cuts for the rich and the resulting potential for us going back into that recession and maybe even a full-fledged depression this time.

Really. The price of oil is set by speculators. Introduce a new major source of oil within the north American continent to the largest user of oil in the world and the price drops 30% in a week. In the same way that the wacko in Iran can go out on his balcony, wave hs arms, spout something about Isreal and the price goes UP 30% in a week. Oil has long ago gone beyond mere supply and demand. Wish that it were so simple, it it were oil would be half the price it is right now.

They did what they were put there for. To stop the Obamabots from destroying the country any further.

They were put there to create jobs. Where are the jobs? And what did they do to create them? Legislating on female organs is what they've done. And that created zero jobs. They are a failure.

The economy is almsot the same and in some cases worse than the day Obama took Offcie...

That's ignorant hogwash.

Yes, please make spending tax dollars on a giant wall a priority. That is absolutely the most important item on the agenda for the newly elected government.

Maybe they could just build a giant toilet instead? That way we could cut out the middle man and just start flushing money away directly.

Actually, I'm against that wall. The point was that the Feds are free to build it on Federal land, notwithstanding the reality that Federal land really belongs to the states and the people.

In several ways, the wall is causing more problems than it's correcting, sigh man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

When you build freeways buildings need to move. Same with that wall. What's a nation that can't protect it's own border?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

So GDP and Unemployment were better in 2011 than 21010 and they are better in 2012 than 2011 ?

Unemployment has certainly looked better this year over last and it looked better in 2011 than it did in 2010.

GDP is growing. Not as fast as one would like but coming out of a financial crisis, that is what happens. Look at our peers across the globe and you will recognize that we're doing well. Our growth rate is well above that of all other industrialized nations except for the resource economies of Canada and Australia.

Their unemployment ran out so I wouldn't use that as an indicator by any means.

I see. So it's an indicator as long as the unemployment rate creeps up but once it falls, it no longer is a good indicator. Got it.

This is from the same guy that argued the only reason unemployment numbers were so high, was because of extended benefits. Were you right then, or are you right now?

So then explain to all of us here about the millions of people that were drawing unemployment benefits only to have them run out. Maybe all of them just up and died or took a slow boat to China right after they renounced their US citizenship.

There's a few things that bother me and one of them is people against a country controlling it's own borders. A country they choose to live in no less.

If I made that argument then I was wrong then. The unemployment rate is not based on people filing for UI benefits. I may at some point have been under the impression that it is. But that's clearly not the case.
