Hello All. I am interested in sending a small packet , A necklace. to Someone in Zaporohyze, Ukraine.

After reading about mail theft  if anything looks like it may be of value :o , I am wanting to know anyones experience with this. Does Fed-ex or UPS make any guaranteed deliveries there.?

Thanks.

UPS definitely. You can also buy insurance on it, and track the package where it's at.

Best check to be sure that it is permitted to send jewelry into Ukraine. As I recall it is not permitted (or wasn't a couple of years ago) something to do with tarriffs.

Good Luck!

Check restrictions..can't send jewelry or even COSTUME jewelry to Russia...maybe Ukraine....look at Fed EX and UPS for restrictions....even USPS has restrictions....it is a ####### shoot otherwise. They would not even let me send tea without complete documents. Customs forms for post are required for USPS and they may be stopped at the border. We were hassled at St. Pete airport for something stupid...and it was obvious that the security wanted the item...but we were able to give it to a friend with us to hold on till the next time we were back. Good luck

When I want make SURE something gets to someone in Ukraine or Russia I send it Fedex or UPS and specify station pickup. Then let the person go pick it up at the office. Genrally there is much less problem with theft from these carriers.

What do you mean by guaranteed? Insure your item.

I have no experience sending jewelry so thanks for that input. Interesting

I sent a silver necklace with a silver heart pendant through USPS before packed in a small Priority Mail box along with lots of candy before. It made it all the way, but the necklace wasn't too expensive so I wouldn't have been horrible crushed if the package turned up missing... I don't recall putting it on the customs form though. I may have though since I didn't really read the restrictions list on the first few packages I had sent my wife. I got lucky I guess.

Out of the many packages I had sent to her in Ukraine, I only think one of them that didn't make it... I believe it was the last package before my wife came over to be with me in November 2011. Something must have held it up. Maybe it arrived at her grandma's house after she left. I'm not sure.

The only other carrier I had used once was FedEx to ship some very important documents. Boy was that expensive as hell...

I tried to send a package with a small piece of jewelry along with some other items, books, CD's, toys. The UPS people accepted it here and sent it to Russia but it was held up in customs there. It eventually got sent back to me months later, never having been delivered, apparently because of that small jewelry item. If you cannot take it there personally it might make more sense to just send money by money-gram. To us it is cold and impersonal but they don't seem to look at it that way.

I would use DHL instead of the other carriers, just because they are based in Germany and more established in Eastern Europe. You should find a DHL office in just about any city over there. Other carriers often rely on other companies to ship. I shipped a package from USA to Kherson, Ukraine and it arrived in about 5 days, with online tracking and everything. But it was expensive. If you plan to travel there soon, I would carry it with me instead.

If you do ship a package, keep it simple. Avoid adding anything that could cause custom delays. Also, additional weight == $$$$.
