I am flying from London with my Fiancee on November 29th... I reside in California, and I applied for K-1 from California... We are planning to fly into Washington DC and stay with my mom and sister in Virginia through christmas (around 1 month)... We would like to get married in a civil ceremony in Virginia in hopes that this marriage in another state will not cause any problems with our application for AOS/EAD in CA... We want to do this so that we don't add a month of waiting for her EAD to be approved

So basically my question is: Will getting married in Virginia, when we plan live and complete visa/AOS process in California, cause any problems for us?

Thanks for sharing any knowledge in this situation

Shouldn't be a problem, as long as you are able to meet the marriage requirements for Virginia. Just to make sure, you may also want to review the state of California marriage laws/requirements. Here is a great reference thread by a fellow VJ member, LeftCoastLady: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/361739-quick-reference-guide-for-state-level-services/page__p__5281657#entry5281657

I would suspect that as far as the USCIS is concerned, a marriage legal in the commonwealth of Virginia isn't any different than a marriage legal in the state of California.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

No problem at all. You can get married anywhere in the US. Just get a few copies of your certified marriage certificate before you head back to California.

I agree with both, especially the extra copies. Have fun and a safe trip.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
