Our case was approved on Oct 6 and we received the welcome notice on Oct 12, but we immediately noticed it had an incorrect address on it . However, our postman was able to deliver it , they did get the name and city correct. The rest of the address was mainly a bunch of semi colons and commas. We talked to the postman , told him we were expecting an important piece of mail from immigration and he told us not to worry , as long as the name was correct he would deliver it. He said there was no need to go to PO to explain , he would deliver it . We made the mistake of taking his advice , although not sure if it would have helped to go to PO or not . I did call the 1-800 # immediately as well and they told me they would make a report of the mistake and someone would call me within 30 days and then gave me a referral #. Sooooo..... yesterday my husband gets 10 emails saying that the greencard was returned on Oct. 27 as it was "undeliverable". I again called the 1-800 # and was given another referral # and told they will contact me within 30 days. We are both really upset and are imagining months and months more of waiting. Is calling this number the only recourse we have?? Is there anything else we can do ?? Any ideas would really be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are wanting to travel outside the U.S. before you receive the GC, you could try making an InfoPass appointment with your local office and asking if they could put the I-551 stamp in your passport, which is the same as having the GC.

As far as rectifying the situation, you could also mention the address problem at an InfoPass appointment. My local office changed my name for my 10-year GC with no problems.

Good luck.

Sorry this has happened..... you need to make an infopass appointment asap dont bother with the infoline 0800 its a waste of time... at infopass confirm the address they hold and get then to request the card be re-issed....

Also make sure your name is on the Mailbox as cards have been returned because no name visable on the box...

Hope you get it sorted...

The name on the mailbox has nothing to do with the incident. We use our friend's house address since we might move from our current apt and we never failed to receive mails from USCIS. So the name of the mail box has nothing to do with it. Some people use the address of office.

Glad you think it has nothing to do with it.... try doing a search on here for people who have had mail returned from USCIS and have been told they need their address on the mailbox...... Myself included.....

Lets hope you never have the same issue and have given USCIS your C/O address...

Our address is not on our mailbox - just the number of the street. All of my USCIS mail was delivered - including the AP on which the address was so slurred and garbled that it took a supreme effort to make it out: the name was blurred, the city and state were blurred - all that were barely legible if you looked closely among the smudging was the zipcode and the street address. It was delivered - and much kudos to my postal carrier for effort above and beyond the call of duty. I know of no mailboxes in our subdivision that have the individual's name on it - only the street number - so I don't think that is a standard requirement. I suspect many of the undeliverables are sent to the right address but the address gets garbled or blurred during the printing process so that it is illegible and the non-delivery directly caused by USCIS.
