My husband and I are starting the CR1 process. I am from Singapore and he is from USA. We have chosen to do the CR1 process on our own without lawyer assistance.

I have been reading a lot on the process and am trying to obtain a clear understanding of the process. I am still very confused by the NVC process especially with the many discussion on shortcuts etc. I have put together what I have read with questions. Can you assist me in verifying my understanding? Also suggestions for doing things faster is welcome.

-------------------------------------------------

Step 1: USICS Process (About 5 months process)

1. Submit I30 form with supporting documents to USICS ( US citizenship and Immigration service)

(Make a copy of all the documents before submission)

2. A few weeks after you have sent your petition to the USCIS you will receive a Notice of Action (aka NOA) letter indicating that they have begun processing your I-130 application.

3. When your I-130 petition is finally approved, the service center that processed your petition, will send you another Notice of Action letter indicating your approval, and the forwarding of your approved petition to the National Visa Center (NVC) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, along with a phone number to contact the NVC with. Your case will now only be dealt with by the NVC. The service center that you filed with, will have no more knowledge on the status of your petition or case.

Step 2: National Visa Centre (About 30 days process)[/b][/u]

1. Obtain case number

Use the CIS (NOA) receipt number from your approval to find out.

On calling the NVC automated voice response number (603) 334-0700 you will.... press 1 for English press 2 for Spanish

press 1 for information about your immigrant visa

It will then ask you if you know your CIS receipt number.....press 1

(Once you have a case number you can use this.....press 2)

You then follow the instructions to key in your number.

If will then tell you if NVC has received the petition, and assigned a number.

2. Once case number is obtained, the beneficiary can email choice of agent to NVC

(Qn: If beneficiary email NVC for choice of agent, can we ignore the DS3032 when we receive the hard copy)

3. NVC will generate and send DS3032 form and AOS bill to petitioner

• Ignore DS3032 if email obtain response from NCS

• The petitioner sends back the AOS Bill payment.

AOS Bill entered into NVC System

• I-864 Package generated.

• Petitioner receives I-864 Package.

• Petitioner completes and sends the I-864 package.

• I-864 package entered into NVC system.

• If more info/evidence is required, then NVC will generate and send a checklist.

• Petitioner responds to the checklist and it is entered into the System.

Requirement for Form I864

• Your OWN cover sheet listing what documents are in the package, so they're easy for the reviewer to locate

• Completed I-864 signed

• Original Employment Letter

• Most recent tax return (all forms)

• Copy of PAY STUBS for current year (showing how much money you have made year to date)

• Last 3 years Tax transcripts, W-2 and/or 1099 (any source of income) OPTIONAL

• SPONSOR: I-864 + all above documents for sponsor. Each sponsor that lives in the same household as the petitioner, should use I-864a, instead of I-864

(Qn: What is meant by sponsor? )

• Make 2 extra copies of this package. Send 1 copy to the beneficiary

4. NVC System generate Immigrant Visa Bill Generated. (see my qn on DS3032)

• Agent receives the IV Bill.

• Agent sends back the IV Bill payment.

• IV Bill entered into NVC System.

• DS-230 package generated.

• Agent receives DS-230 package.

• Agent sends completed DS-230 plus documentation required by NVC.

• DS-230 package entered into NVC system

• If more info/evidence is required, then NVC will generate and send a checklist.

• Agent responds to the checklist and it is entered into the System.

Supporting document for DS-230

• BARCODED Cover Sheet (to be printed from web when your status is PAID online for IV bill)

• You OWN cover sheet listing what documents are in the package, so they're easy for the reviewer to locate

• Completed DS-230 part I & II and ONLY part I signed by beneficiary.

• Photocopy of the beneficiary's passport biographic data page.

• Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s birth certificate.

• Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s and petitioner’s marriage certificate.

• Original police certificates of the beneficiary.

• Original/certified copy of military record, if applicable.

• Original/certified copy of divorce decree, death certificate, etc. of previous marriage, if applicable.

U have got it all, if ur husband makes enough u don't need a joint sponsor but if he makes less money then u will file I-864A if a joint sponsor is willing to share his income to bring u to states. If the joint sponsor lives in same house as ur husband then both ur husband and joint sponsor will file i864 and joint sponsor will only file i864A but if joint sponsor live in differ address then he will also file I-864.

To make it faster just get ur affidavit of support and DS230 ready to send because NVC is fast in their process so I'd recommend u do all these ahead of time and have ur envelope ready to send. Also NVC don't send hard copy of documents they will only send letters of notification. All forms are online so as soon ur case is at NVC just go ahead and pay the fees and sent those docs. All docs can be downloaded rightnow so no need to wait to pay ur fee

Step 2: National Visa Centre (About 30 days process)[/b][/u]

You then follow the instructions to key in your number.

If will then tell you if NVC has received the petition, and assigned a number.

When you call the number, follow the options to speak to a live person. Give the person your case number. The phone system does not work the way you mentioned above anymore.
