It's dumb. I understand franchises but still. IMHO it's dumb. But it is what it is... So we go with what we know and can research vs being blind. star_smile.gif

LOL I love how they have BMO in front of the name and can say "We're not affiliated" Actually dude, you are. Have you checked your name recently? Do you know what BMO stands for?" Morons. Anyhow.... I'll probably just switch to RBC. it seems to be the best option even though I've been with BMO for so long and no matter what, there are NO branches or atms from any Canadian bank anywhere close to where I will be living. I just want to make sure I have a Canadian bank account for visits, to send my kid money, to receive money from important people and to keep a credit line there for if we ever move.

Yes, loving RBC right now. SO helpful any time I've ever called them with an issue, too.

I have no locations in the US near me, but they can scan checks for deposit and even do refunds if you have to use another ATM.

I just called TD again and they confirmed that I can't have a CC.. Apparently people can slip by by not saying that it's a permanent move, but if it is the card has to be closed. Too bad. :(

Just curious as to who you're calling. I'm like Sapphire and Udella.... TD was fine with me living in the US and having their card. And I never lied to them.

I called the regular 1-800 number and the one suggested on the previous page. They even said they double checked, and my card is already gone. Good thing I have a power of attorney in Canada to wire money to me if need be. This has been my only kerfluffle so far, at least.

I was extremely upfront with TD when I moved too and they let me keep and use my card. In fact, they just sent me a new one. I've spoken to them several times over the phone, told them I was moving and needed to change my address or ask questions and they have been fine with allowing me to keep and use my credit card.

I'm also in the same credit situation as you. No credit in the US and no job yet. It's a tough job market out there, hopefully you can get this sorted out.

I was just in TD today getting things sorted before my POE and I asked about my credit card. She said it was no problem living in the US and having a TD credit card. She actually recommended that I keep my credit card to keep up my credit history in Canada in case we do decide to move here in the future!

Well, the card is already gone and I've asked at least two different people, so I'm not sure that I want to keep bugging TD. The wait times on the phone with them kind of suck. At this point I'm in a credit union here in California with a visa debit card so that should be good enough - my husband is willing to help out with any purchases past my limit (which I still need to check into). My brother is power of attorney so if I were to have issues he can wire money down to me. Just goes to show that no matter how much planning you can do, things can slip by and you have to prepare for them!
