I understand the principle of institutional racism but I also think that by the time my generation comes to power, it will be gone. I do agree that there can be institutionalized racism against whites in areas where the leadership is primarily none white. Especially as white people are no longer a majority in many communities.

Another thing to consider is the fact that affirmative action and other racial hiring / selection practices often hurt asian minorities.

How many White people here can honestly say they've personally experienced racial discrimination? How many Black people can say they've never experienced discrimination because of the color of their skin?

I was bussed to an inner city majority black school in Detroit in second grade because I was white. Does that count?

I am glad I stay away from this place on evenings and weekends - it means I always have entertaining stuff like this to read on a Monday morning at work.

And why do it on your own time when you can get paid to do it?

Laugh! I guess the bussing didn't work out. There's not one white kid in the whole school I was bussed to.

I had to do some research before I came in here saying the wrong thing:

1. I would never let someone get drug to death and not do something, for the third time, I was not there. I was posting the link to give context to the topic(before you came in here and made it about guns). But like I said I don't need a gun to act, I just do.

2. Guns don't solve crime, people not committing them helps. In Vermont you had 17 murders in 2008, Texas has very lax gun laws and they had 1,248. Why? Because if you live somewhere that has good business and jobs, people are less likely to committ violence. When was the last time someone shot up a rich neighbohood? What is the threat in Vermont, the maple trees get out of hand sometimes?

3. Yes I would call the police if I saw someone in danger and I couldn't help them, it's their job. It's funny how people get out of pocket when they are carrying a gun, they put themselves in a situation because they know the outcome. You wouldn't have followed that guy if you didn't have a gun, just like someone else who was standing their ground.

So then you never SAW a black man dragged by white men...you READ about it, the same as I did. So how are we different? How does that affect YOU more than it affects ME?

Nice analogy, now give me the business report on Vermont that shows it is better than Texas, please. It is not. Texas has a much better economy than Vermont and a lower percentage of poor people.

Try again with your nonsense. Maybe do a little more research.

Texas has very strict gun laws compared to Vermont that has virtually NONE. Vermont goes by US Federal law regarding guns. It is legal for anyone to carry a concealed handgun here because the state has NO law against it. Absent a law making it illegal...it is legal. Texas on the other hand BANS the carrying of concealed handguns (or exposed handguns) and makes an exemption for people licensed to do so. About 2% of Texans are legally allowed to carry firearms concealed. 100% of the population in Vermont are allowed to do so, including visitors.

Anyone in Vermont can carry a gun, give me an example of ONE Vermonter getting "out of pocket" with a gun legally carried for protection. Please.

Exactly. I do much more entertaining things on my own time.

Much to the dismay of your employer, I would imagine.

Here is some more research for you. Amazing how you chose a year with an unusual number of homicides, who would have guessed. But it is clear why you did not post a link. Why not choose last year with less than half the homicides of 2008? I wonder

No not really. I am going to have to fix my ability to post the link as cutting and pasting is not working well, but I will do that Marvin. Unless you would rather do it yourself Marvin and show us the real figures for Vermont. Google "Vermont violent crime". I will be able to post the link later tonight unless you do so first Marvin.

Why would my employer care what I do on my own time?

The good news for us is it comes out of your employers pocket and is not cofiscated from my paycheck. Better than posting while on welfare I suppose. Have you anything relevent to the discussion to add?

I have experienced racial discrimination from Black people. Your not in touch if you think it does not go both ways.
