You take a gun to the movies and to the supermarket to protect your wife in Vermont? What is wrong with you? Vermont is about the safest place on earth. Does it make you feel like a real tough man having a gun while watching Batman? That didn't end so well in Colorado.

Yeah you'd really need a gun in those scary Vermont churches. :wow:

It's really nice to know that you have all those wonderful decorative and real manly guns. Thanks for sharing. I feel better every time I know how wonderful you are. I aspire to one day come close to be as great as you.

Vermont is safe because we carry guns. Yes, I take a gun everywhere and carry it with at all times, even in my home. If I am awake and dressed, I am carrying a gun. For one thing, the only place you should have a LOADED gun is on you and under your direct control. Not laying about where it will not be handy if you need it and will be a potential danger to people ignorant of firearms.

The fact that the incident happened in Colorado, and not Vermont, is another telling bit of information. Only people LICENSED to carry concealed in Colorado can do so. In Vermont, ANYONE can.

Oakland is not quite the same as Vermont.

Agreed. But WHAT is different that would cause crime if people there had the same rights as Vermonters. Stating the obvious is not the question.

I contend that IF the population of Oakland (and all of California) was allowed to carry concealed handguns just as Vermonters are, then the crime rate would drop to very low levels, just as has here. (Vermont ahs ALWAYS allowed it residents and visitors freedom)

If you disagree, then tell me why. Please.

So if the people murdered in the movies in Colorado had a gun with them they would have had time to take out the nutbag before he shot them? I bet even you and your arsenal wouldn't be ready for that.

And if there weren't any guns in Vermont it would be a hotbed of violence? I've been there a few times and never carried a gun and never felt threatened in the gift store in bumf*ck or big scary Burlington when I was buying my cheese and maple syrup.

Maybe it's only paranoid people from the south that feel that there is a need to pack heat.

 Some parts of Oakland are quite beautiful, and some of the architecture is amazing. Paramount Theater? What an incredible place.

Vermont is full of cows and commies, and they all have guns, including the cows.

Crime rates are "per capita" and factor out population. ONE homicide would have a profound affect on Vermont's homicide rate. It would make no difference in Oakland's. Total population is not the reason we have a low rate of crime. The total population being permitted to be armed...IS the reason.

Population density? Vermont is 15 times more densly populated than Quebec and Quebec has 3 times the crime rate of Vermont. They have plenty of commies and cows in Quebec also, yet the crime rate is much higher. -0-% of the adult population of Quebec is allowed to be armed (except police) while 100% of the adult population of Vermont is allowed to be armed.

Try again.

Good thing you are in Vermont, and I am in California. I am comforted to know you can;t shoot me here, from there, just because you are losing the argument.

You are speculating. I am not. It happened in Colorado, not Vermont. Vermont has allowed everyone to carry a gun since becoming the 14th state in 1791. Texas has allowed it only since 1995. Vermont has always been in the north. Vermont has never seen fit to restrict the rights of its residents and visitors and so I will allow you to speculate on what it would become. We like how it is. I can assure you that YOUR state would love to have OUR crime rate.

You were never threatened in our beautiful state because other people in the gift store were carrying guns and the criminal has no idea WHO is armed...could be anyone, even YOU. You do not have to be a resident to be armed in Vermont.

The fact is being armed PREVENTS it from happening in the first place. THAT's whay it doesn;t happen here. NO we do not have shootouts on main street. There are no shootouts because their is no crime because we are armed.

That's like saying "You have Orkin Pest Control once a month? You must have cockroaches?" NO!!!!!!! I have Orkin Pest Control.

If you would like to offer a reason why you think the people of your state are unable to handle this freedom responsibly, just as we do, please do so. I am interetsed.

I can only speak for myself. I do not own a gun and I never have. Where I come from (Scotland) guns are illegal. The violent crime rates are much lower than in the United States (although probably higher on average than Vermont. I haven't researched that). I have never felt unsafe in Massachusetts and have no urge to carry a gun or a knife or any form of protection. I have never been threatened by anyone in this country. I also have 2 homes in Maine and couldn't feel safer while I am there so feel no need to carry protection there either.

I have been the victim of crime twice in this country. I had items stolen from my car in Massachusetts and I had my house broken into in Maine (although nothing was taken) but I wasn't there either time so owning a gun would have made no difference.

I was never a victim of crime in my own country in 42 years despite the fact guns are illegal.

Yeah, what is up with that? I am a fan of George Clinton, but I just don't understand some of that funk. I am a big guy, and have a hard time keeping my pants up at times. But to see some skinny kid with his pants around his knees, sometimes I wonder if I set the style or if they are just making fun of me.

I agree. A bit of humor makes even nasty republicans seem human!

I have no idea how you do it, I posted a link, did you read it? I wasn't there, if I was of course I would have acted, but sorry I don't need to hide behind a firearm. The areas we avoid are places we don't need to be, like the hood has better deals or something. I guess I have to be more specific since you seem to be the only person who can't understand my post.

But I guess it's easy to talk big when you are packing heat huh, guess that's why GZ felt the need to follow TM, because if he wasn't carrying I'll bet 100 to one he would have stayed his butt in the car. But when you have a gun, you know someone else is going to lose their life. But I guess Vermont is so bad everyone has to pack guns, never heard that one before. I will defend my wife and family with my bear hands, because I guess taking someone's life when not in war is something I don't want on my conscience.

Vermont is so GOOD because we carry guns. You have it wrong. Taking someone else's life is the 2nd to last thing I would want to have happen.

Not everyone in Vermont packs guns. It is not mandatory...it is allowed. The criminals do not KNOW who has guns and do not KNOW that only 5% of the population is licensed to do so. They KNOW that ANYONE can be carrying a gun, THAT is why it is safe, that is why I will not have to take anyone's life, that is why it is safe to walk anywhere in Vermont at any time of day or night and even ask for change for a $100 bill and THAT is a very wonderful thing...not a bad thing.

But it is always interesting to see who supports human rights and who doesn't.

Just cos it is legal to carry concealed weapons doesn't mean it is legal to shoot anyone for any reason. If someone steals that $100 bill from you in the street and you shoot them dead you will be in a whole world of #######.

Scotland has 18 times the crime rate of Vermont. I have researched that. I am not guessing. I own a gun (many). I have never felt unsafe in Vermont, not walking downtown last night (a rare fairly warm evening in October)after dancing and dinner out, Alla and I took a walk along the very dark lake front park. Perfectly safe, I was armed and, can you believe, felt no need to shoot any of the passers by that said "good evening! Nice weather for late October" Some of them may have had a gun also.

You do not need to carry protection because other people do it for you and criminals do not know who has it. I will guess that you do NOT have a sign around yor neck that says "I never carry a gun" Do you? You are basically enjoying the welfare people like me provide. Come to Burlignton, you are safe anytime. You're welcome!

But I have seen white people drag a black man down the street until he died, so now what?

Incredible you would watch such a thing and do nothing...did you even bother to CALL someone with a gun, or just watch?

This is what happens when people are unarmed sheep

I never saw it (I live in Vermont) but I read about it and I carry a gun so it won't happen to me or my family

I don't know, why don't you tell me and back it up with data, OK?

The tragedy happened in Colorado, not Vermont. Vermonters have always had guns and always had low crime. Colorado does not allow everyone to carry guns. I have proven my case.

Your turn.

Just cos it is legal to carry concealed weapons doesn't mean it is legal to shoot anyone for any reason. If someone steals that $100 bill from you in the street and you shoot them dead you will be in a whole world of #######.

Did I say that? Please post where I said it is legal to shoot anyone for any reason.

Back to your argument.
