Yep, a lot of people seem to forget that Lincoln fought for the abolishment of slavery, and the KKK was mostly Southern Democrats. I believe it was President Lyndon Johnson who pushed the civil rights bill after JFK was assassinated. On the day he signed it, he said "We have lost the South for a generation", after which Richard Nixon started the Southern Strategy, and it's been like that ever since.

This quote os perhaps more fitting when we speak of Johnson.

“I’ll have those n_gers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.”

You might need to spell it like he said it.

If I had not seen it sources at several location, I would never have used it.

If you can show it to be falsely quoted I would retract it and never use such a charge (I'm not a lib).

Except they did not lose the south until 1980 when Jimmy Carter pissed it away with his incompetence. Johnson reformed immigration law at the same time he passed the Civil Rights Act (1965) to replace exploited blacks with exploited Mexicans. A situation that still exists and is supported by Democrats. Blacks, who may have been below average in education and income at least had traditions of strong family values, those were destroyed when the government stepped in with the "Great Society" and took the place of fathers resulting in today's 70%+ out of wedlock birth rate in black communities. The black family was systematically and purposely destroyed to make them dependent on government and has resulted in a multi-generational welfare state where the BEST many can hope for is welfare. The education and skill sets they are provided can never produce enough in income to replace what they receive in welfare and no effort is made to break the cycle by requiring education or work experience to maintain welfare benefits. It results is a permanently dependent population of reliable Democrat voters and absolute control of the majority of that race. Where can they go, what can they do, without the direction and benefits of the government. Throw in a little drug for the masses...crack cocaine, and VOILA! Nobody ain't goin' nowhere.

Witness Hurricane Katrina when a huge population of people could not even walk away from a slowly rising flood. Where would they go? What would they do? Who would feed them? Where would they live? They are completely and totally dependent and under the control of the government. They live where they are placed, eat what they are given, go to school where they are told. In what way are they better off than slaves? Who is their master?

I'm glad my mother took the high road to instill in me those values in me so I wouldn't take a hand out. I have plenty of friends that refuse to take welfare, they would rather work some crappy job to pay bills than receive assistance. And I salute them for it, there is always a better way, it might be harder, but it can be done.

But how can the Republicans fix this? I mean, when you break it down like that it sounds like it would make sense to go over to the other side. But they have let it be know for years what they think about anyone who isn't white, straight, affluent. And it's a shame that you can count the black in the GOP by 4 hands and feet.

Nope, Uncle Sam pays my salary, when I retire, THEN you will :innocent:

Uncle Sam confiscates money from my paycheck to pay you and buy your computer.

Republicans will not fix it because it is how they want it. Blacks in "their place" voting for Democrats. Who wants to change? Republicans long ago forfeited the black vote in order to keep them controlled. On "the east side of the Dan Ryan" so to speak. (Chicago analogy) The Dan Ryan expressway is like a MOAT cutting through Chicago with the black, Democrat ghettos on the east side and the white, Democrat, Irish neighborhoods on the west side. I am not Republican so I have no need to defend them

Change is easy. Look at the statistics, find the common denominator (most people on welfare are white, but blacks have a much higher percentage of the black population on welfare, incidentally) The common denominator is education and work experience. How many HS drop outs are on welfare? How many HS graduates? How many college graduates. Oh, yeah, you got it! How many with 10 years working experience are on welfare?

SO...someone needs help, OK I'm on board with that, help them! Give them whatever programs we can to make their life livable...you name it. No problem. BUT they need to attend school and/or work 40 hours per week (cumulative) while receiving benefits. Provide them with daycare and transportation if necessary at wahtever it costs BUT get them educated and get them working! (this does not apply to physically disabled people) They will develop skills and gain knowledge to be able to get a good job and be able to do better for their families than welfare.

This is the libertarian view. Individual liberty and individual responsibility. Everything needs to have that goal in mind. If a person is not able to be individually responsible right now, then lets help them and lets help them to GET individually responsible so they won't NEED welfare.

Just for fun, let's get rid of the nonsense allowing children to drop out of school when they are 16 if their brain dead parents allow them to. NO WAY! You go to school until you graduate High School, minimum. What kind of gun are we putting in our mouths by allowing our children to drop out of school at age 16?????? That's retarded!

This is not the cheap plan, it is not the easy plan, it is the plan that will end the need for welfare.

Won;t happen because politicians like welfare, like a dependent (dependable) populace for voting and like being able to control "certain people" whether they be minorities or just plain 'ol "white trash", gotta keep them where they stay out of the way.

It's not about race.. Clarence Thomas was virtually universally supported by conservatives because they shared his views. The extreme religious influence on the party is unfortunate and largely responsible for the views about gays. There will be an inevitable shift to the left on social issues as society becomes more secular, they will have no choice.

My wife is still coming to terms with right/left views, I explained it to her this way: Think of a pie. The right are obsessed with the size of the pie, they want it to be bigger and bigger even at the expense of some people not getting a slice. The left are obsessed with cutting up the pie and making sure everyone gets a fair slice even at the expense of the pie getting smaller and smaller.

I'm sure I head it somewhere but I don't remember.

I like pie and guns

I told Alla about the "glass half full or half empty" analogy. She says "The glass is half full but it is ALL mine"

And as you point out... not only is it subsidizing failure but then on top of it they import millions of 3rd world workers to take even the limited opportunities away. (although to be fair the GOP has played a roll in the immigration debacle as well)

Of course. It is not a coincidence that immigration law was relaxed the same time the Civil Rights Act was passed. We replaced the black underclass with the illegal immigrant underclass.

Republicans get a cheap labor force for business to avoid all the payroll costs, minimum wage, etc. which the Democrats demand and then negate by not enforcing so they can grab the Hispanic vote.

Dems will talk about some sort of amnesty or program to legalize the illegals who then become unemployed legal workers because no one wants to pay the payroll tax and minimum wage which is WHY they here in the first place. Amnesty is just a conscription of new illegals. Dems get more people in the dependent class who will be citizens in 5 years and vote for Dems.

Republicans spout nonsense about building fences and aerial drones watching the border (and who knows what else?) Which does nothing but waste money which is what they accuse Dems of doing.

NO ONE says..."hey let's put the @ssholes exploiting these people out of business with taxes that bankrupt them" VOILA! No more problem with illegals.

Sharpen your pencil and do the basic math and you will see, by the time the Right ditches the Religious-Right... they will no longer have enough votes to win the White house, ever again.

There are two growing classes which will soon insure a big-Gov victory in every Presidential election.

-Those working for Gov't (directly or indirectly) and those depending on Gov.

- Minorities -They vote for more Government at a Much larger percentage, the more we import the harder it becomes to win election.

And you think Victory days are ahead for the GOP when they are finally free from the "foot soldiers" and it's largest block of support? (those whose faith guides their vote.)

Imagine for 2 scary minutes we are two terms down the road and just the State of texas alone with 38 electoral votes has hit the tipping point of minority voters as California has already.

(right now 60% +/- of students in TX are minorities, in eight years they will be voting age).

How in the world do you ever think you would have enough electoral votes to put even the most centrist GOP candidate in?
