they tried to cash the I-485 payment three times and it has not gone through. what happens next. Just need a few more days for the payment to go through. what do i do?

Who is "they"? If you don't have funds to cover the fee I suggest you somehow find them before they reject your application.

I've seen it go one of 2 ways:

1. Send the whole package back to you; or

2. Send you an RFE for payment.

I'm not sure whether they will charge you for any fees they paid because of the bounced check. I can't say I've seen them do that but who knows!

In the future for any fees you have to pay, use a certified check! Its not required but it helps prevent stuff like this since the funds are automatically out of your account as soon as the check is made :)

the uscis said before if it doesnt go thru they send u a notice to pay within 14 days. but the officer working the case has tried to cash it 3 times within one week. i hope they don reject the app under those circumstances, i could make an appointment to speak with someone but i dont even know if that would help. dont know what to do

In regards to the NSF check, the OP probably already knows this:

Insufficient Funds – Please note that the electronic fund transfer from your account can occur faster than normal processing of a paper check. If we cannot complete the electronic fund transfer because your account has insufficient funds, we will try to make the transfer up to two more times. If your account still lacks sufficient funds, you will be billed the original check amount and a one-time administrative fee by USCIS.

I cannot say what will happen to the AOS application, but the OP will more than likely be charged by their bank and DHS for the NSF check at the minimum.
