WARNING TO CANADIAN CITIZENS

October 26, 2012

Dear Canadians, you are receiving this email because you are registered with the Government of Canada's Registration of Canadians Abroad Service. Please share the following important information with all the Canadian citizens in your organization, area or district.

The U.S. National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami is issuing advisories for Hurricane Sandy. As changes to the forecast and local conditions are continuous, Canadians should visit the U.S. National Hurricane Center for the latest updates ( http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ ).

Canadians residing in or travelling to the affected areas should monitor local news and weather reports, follow the advice of local authorities, and contact their travel agent or tour operator to determine whether the situation will disrupt travel arrangements

A hurricane preparedness plan includes three basic elements that are important in the threat of any severe weather event: 1) maintain a disaster or emergency supply kit; 2) secure your home and property; and 3) have a safe place to go in the event of an evacuation or prolonged utility outage.

We would encourage you to visit the following web sites where further information is available, on hurricanes specifically and emergency preparedness in general.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada at: http://www.voyage.gc.ca/

To receive the latest information posted on these pages, you may subscribe to the Travel Updates at http://www.voyage.gc...abonner-eng.asp or to the RSS feeds by visiting http://www.voyage.gc...nnement-eng.asp

Get prepared at: http://www.getprepar.../index-eng.aspx

The Canadian Hurricane Centre at: http://www.ec.gc.ca/...ans-hurricanes/

We would be grateful if you would pass on the contents of this letter to any other Canadian citizens you know, and have them bring their whereabouts to our attention if they are not already registered with us.

On a lighter note...

...did the Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta say if Hurricane Sandy is targeting Canadians only ?

My experience in this country is that the Federal, State, and Local Governments are pretty efficient in warning entire communities/residents of any particular locality about impending weather dangers such as this one.

Just imagine the scenarios if each country in the world was to start issuing such warnings to their citizens who reside in various parts of the USA. Someone know if China has warned the Pandas on loan at the National Zoo in Washington, DC?

I laughed at first... but then after seeing you say that, I suppose that could be helpful for someone like me that rarely watches the news. I get most of my updates on current affairs and weather from facebook status updates -_-

The prediction is that Canada is sending a nice burst of cold air to party with Sandy, and that it might be a blizzicane when they tango.

Cold air? I was kicking myself in the butt yesterday when I left the house in a sweater and realized when I was sweating in my car that it was 78 degrees Fahrenheit =[
