The middle class is what makes or breaks the US economy. If the middle class isn't spending money, or has no money to spend, the economy sputters and stalls. Mitt Romney says he will raise taxes across the board on everyone, Obama says he will only raise taxes on the people earning $250K and up. The choice is pretty simple, I think.

I get the whole trickle down affect of raising taxes on the upper class, but I don't think it has nearly as much affect on the economy as raising taxes on the middle class.

Please see: http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/underestimating-mitt-romneys-tax-plan/2012/10/23/5fdf114e-1d15-11e2-8817-41b9a7aaabc7_story.html

"The Post wrongly suggested that middle-class taxpayers would see their taxes increase, even though the Tax Policy Center itself acknowledges that the benefit of the cuts for the middle class is hidden in its analysis."

I think it is a good example of what you said: 'I think the media misinterprets some CEOs and other CEOs just don't know what the heck they are saying.'

This CEO understands...more taxes on his business (or him - most CEO/owners don't see a difference), mean more businesses close down.

This CEO understands...more taxes on his business (or him - most CEO/owners don't see a difference), mean more businesses close down.

Perhaps because his business model is flawed or he does not know some of the basics.

The CEO fo Honeywell - a really huge internation org - understands that there is no point in investing on a business if you have no customers to buy your product. There is no bigger incentive to invest in a business than the fact that people want and do buy your products.

You need not look further than Apple to realize that their stock did not rise from $ 4.25 to over $600 a share because of their tax breaks. The only reason the company grew is because people wanted to buy their products and as a result they had more money which they used to invest and make better or sexier products.

Money does not generate money on its own. You need products to move in order to get a return on your investment.

All business models are flawed. Yup I agree. But I think we're talking right past each other.

 Did you actually read that before you posted it?

Middle class families are defined by their aspirations more than their income. We assume that

middle class families aspire to home ownership, a car, college education for their children, health

and retirement security and occasional family vacations.

My thoughts exactly.

sigbet.jpg

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
