I am reminded of a movie from many years ago, in the movie a bunch of kids laid down in the middle of the street as part of some sort of training.

Shortly after it's release, something like 18 kids were killed "reenacting" that scene!

can't recall the name but it was about some football movie. and yes, i heard about those kids winning darwin awards afterward.

Isn't it part of our hard wiring? It's how we learn, you know the 'monkey see, monkey do' thing. I'm pretty sure all mammals learn traits such as how to properly care for their young by observing adults.

There is some evidence that people become desensitised to violent imagery, and respond to it on a psychological level. That's partly why I consider the spate of modern horror movies which glorify torture to be a form of pornography.

Similarly traditional porn - presents women as objects of abuse, and presents the sexual act/s in a way that justifies their abuse. Its not so much a question of 'obscenity' either - because there is a presumption in most 'obscenity' laws that women's bodies are dirty.

As to whether porn 'satisfies' some sort of male urge to rape, I find that highly questionable. Most men who watch porn aren't rapists, but there certainly are people who use porn to fuel their need to act on their fantasies - whether that be to hire a hooker, slip a date rape drug into a drink, or drag a woman into the bushes at knife-point.

The key word is REPORTED. Reported rapes go down after a society becomes flush with pornography. Could it be that rape becomes normalized in such a society and is no longer seen as deviant? I spent 8 years living in Japan, a country with very low reported rape rates and very high and obvious pornography consumption. Sexual crime is out of control there but everyone seems to think it is normal and many people say it would be worse if men didn't have pornography since it provides a place for then to let off steam. Doesn't quite add up though when you take one aspect glorified in pornography- on the train molestation of school girls and talk to a group of high school or college age women about the problem and all of them say it has happened to them in real life.

How about what kind of pornography? Like if people look at like, sick rape porn maybe they would emulate it in reality, but then again, might it be that those who like that stuff have a predeliction for rape? What causes what, right? Also, there has been a lot said about how rape is not generally caused by men with no sexual outlets. I mean, it's not like you gotta have porn just to 'rub one out'. Neither do guys that can't get laid just go out and rape somebody. I have a hard time believing that there is any sort of causal relationship between porn and rape.
