Next week, we will be filing our joint I751 application. The documents I have listed below are a little different. I have some questions highlighted below about how to show some of the documentation. Any feedback is appreciated.

#1 - Joint tenancy. We have been living with our parents since my wife arrived in the USA, so we do not have any lease agreement nor do we have any joint property ownership. To overcome this, we at least want to supply our Driver's Licenses showing the same address. Should we supply an affidavit from our parents stating we have been living together with them?

#1A - First Home. We put an offer to purchase a home but have not closed on it yet. Would it be helpful to provide a copy of the sales contract on the new home with an explanation that the home has not closed yet ?

#2 - Utilities. We do not have any utilities under our names. We do however have joint Credit Card statements for 2 years.

#3 Copies of Cards. Actual credit card copies for the CC referenced above.

#4 Insurance Auto Insurance policy showing both our names. We do not have any Life Insurance - would this potentially hurt our case?

#4A Health Insurance We also have joint Health Insurance - however the Health Insurance is fairly recent - about 1 month. Would it potentially hurt our case to show Health Insurance that is very recent under both our names?

#5 IRA Retirement Retirement Policy showing wife as beneficiary

#6 Bank Accounts Checking Account with both names on them for 2 years. Savings Account with both names on them for 2 years. Do we need to show all pages of the statement or just the first page?

#7 Joint Tax Returns 2 years of tax return transcripts showing joint filings

#8 Property Titles Auto Title for the car we have.

Certified Deed from the County Clerk for an investment property (farm land) we jointly own. This property has been owned by me for years, but when it came time to renew the loan I added my wife's name to the loan and title. Nevertheless, jointly we have only owned this investment property for 4 months - will it hurt our case to show that we only have had this for a few months time? Would it help clarify if I explain this property has been in my name for years, and that I added my wife's name at the appropriate time (renew of loan)? Or will showing this type of information just complicate things too much

#9 Trips Proof of trips taken to California and New York City.

#10 Family Pictures Pictures together with Family

#11 Affidavits Will it be sufficient to get affidavits from family? Or does it look stronger to get affidavits from people who are not family members (friends, etc)?

Why don't you invest $1 in a rental contract and have your parents and yourself filled that out? There's no law prohibiting renting from your parents and there's no law stating the amount of rent.

#1A - First Home. We put an offer to purchase a home but have not closed on it yet. Would it be helpful to provide a copy of the sales contract on the new home with an explanation that the home has not closed yet ?

Sure.

#2 - Utilities. We do not have any utilities under our names. We do however have joint Credit Card statements for 2 years.

Good.

#3 Copies of Cards. Actual credit card copies for the CC referenced above.

Good.

#4 Insurance Auto Insurance policy showing both our names. We do not have any Life Insurance - would this potentially hurt our case?

No.

#4A Health Insurance We also have joint Health Insurance - however the Health Insurance is fairly recent - about 1 month. Would it potentially hurt our case to show Health Insurance that is very recent under both our names?

No. Health insurance is good.

#5 IRA Retirement Retirement Policy showing wife as beneficiary

Good.

#6 Bank Accounts Checking Account with both names on them for 2 years. Savings Account with both names on them for 2 years. Do we need to show all pages of the statement or just the first page?

Enclose about one statement dating every 4 months or so.

#7 Joint Tax Returns 2 years of tax return transcripts showing joint filings

Most important.

#8 Property Titles Auto Title for the car we have.

Good.

Certified Deed from the County Clerk for an investment property (farm land) we jointly own. It will not hurt. No explanation needed.

#9 Trips Proof of trips taken to California and New York City.

Good.

#10 Family Pictures Pictures together with Family

Good.

#11 Affidavits Will it be sufficient to get affidavits from family? Or does it look stronger to get affidavits from people who are not family members (friends, etc)?

Do not enclose affidavits. None.

You have more than you need to get approved in about 5 minutes.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
