My husband would like to settle any debts prior to leaving Canada.

In the US, we can get a free credit report every year.

Does Canada have something like this? He isn't sure.

Yes through the 2 main credit reporting places. If you want it for free you have to mail in a form. Both are available online to print.

If you have a rogers bill in Canada it does not mean you have any credit in the US. The two countries are separate. Generally, when a Canadian moves to the US, they start all over credit-wise. Now, you can print out copies of your Canadian credit report and bring it with you to the US, and if you can convince those who are checking your credit in the US to use your SIN instead of your SSN, you 'may' be able to get your Canadian credit rating to count in the US - but it is not likely and certainly not something to depend on happening.

If you have a rogers bill in Canada, though, you would be able to find our your credit rating in Canada because you would have one.

No no no I'm sorry, you misunderstood.

I'm a USC, but I have a rogers bill in Canada.

I was just curious if I had some kind of canadian credit, then.

If things don't work for us in the US, then we'd obviously end up here way down the road, so I was just wondering if I'd already established something for myself.

Ah,, I see. Yes, if you have any accounts with a revolving balance that you pay off on a regular basis, you would have some sort of credit score in Canada.

Interesting... I could be wrong, but I am fairly certain you cannot really earn any credit in the US on things like bills, so that's kind of neat that I'm establishing something here. I have about 2 years of no issues paying Rogers/Teksavvy so that has to be something good in my favor! =]

Now to clear up my husbands bad credit!

If you are late on a revolving account (eg utility bill, etc.) here in the US it does count against your credit score as well.

Yes, that is true, but being on time doesn't do much for you

Funny how that works.
