Haiti Police Certificate for Interview in the DR

My fiance is a Haitian citizen, but he's been living in the Dominican Republic for a couple years, so his visa interview was in Santo Domingo. When I was getting all our documents together for the interview, I was confused about whether he needed a police certificate from Haiti. Everything I read about police certificates from Haiti said they aren't required because they are not reliable. I also read on the Department of State website that police certificates from Haiti are unavailable. For the interview, we didn't get the certificate, but I printed the information I found on the DOS website just in case they asked for it. Sure enough, they asked for the police certificate! I explained that I had read they were unreliable and I showed her the information from DOS. She said that's strange because people have brought them before. She said everything else looked good and she approved the visa, but she also said she was going to contact the embassy in Haiti to see if they require it. We were told if we needed it, she would call to tell us that. If we don't hear from her, we can assume we didn't need it. Well yesterday, I found out his visa was issued, and we never heard back from the embassy. So I guess that means police certificates from Haiti aren't required. Anyway, I just wanted to pass on this information to anyone who might be wondering the same thing. When I was doing my research to find out exactly what we needed for the interview, I looked through the forums to see if anyone else had this experience before but I didn't find a definitive answer. Hope this helps someone else!

So I'm in a similar situation. My fiance is in the Dominican Republic but he is Haitian. I applied for the embassy in Haiti though because I didn't think they would allow him to have the interview in the DR. Will that cause an issue with the visa? Will they change the embassy to where he lives? I applied in October 2014 and I know they are starting to work on October cases but I'm starting to worry that something is not right.

He will be fine having the interview in Haiti, they wont change the embassy .

Only if you ask for change, but if you change the embasdy now maybe that can cause some delay.

For his interview he will need a RD police certificate because he living here.

You need present a police certificate for any country where you have live last 6 months before interview.

So I'm in a similar situation. My fiance is in the Dominican Republic but he is Haitian. Yes he has a police certificate for the RD already. More of the issue will be getting the medical, police certificate for Haiti and paying for DS-160. All need to be done in Haiti I think. Maybe I caused more of an issue for applying for the embassy in Haiti. Thank you for answering

My fiancé lives in the Dominican Republic. I put the consulate in Haiti on his petition I thought they would change the embassy to the Dominican Republic they didn't. So we are getting things together to have his interview there, so just be prepared for that. When you call the nvc to get your case number for Haiti it will start with: PTP#

SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 2015 THE CONSULATE IN HAITI STOPPED USING HAITI MESSENGER; THEY NOW USE DHL INTERNATIONAL THERE ARE (4) LOCATIONS: PORT-AU-PRINCE, CARREFOUR, PETION-VILLE, AND CAP-HAITIEN. THE ADDRESS AND HOURS OF OPERATION ARE LOCATED IN MY PROFILE ABOUT ME.

  • Placed on Request online for RFE hardcopy to be sent by mail on September 14, 2016
  • As of October 4, 2016 Still waiting for RFE hardcopy to come in the mail, called USCIS on September 30, 2016 no help.
  • As of November 3, 2016 We received an email in regards to not receiving in the mail the Request for Evidence (RFE) , come to find out they really didn't need any additional information. So now the have to wait another 120 more days before we can get an interview or approval. This is some BS.
  • As of February 7, 2017, We received in the mail Interview Date for AOS on March 20, 2017
