I resorted to crying and pouting for several days before hand. Then...He left. I tore my house up and rearranged, reorganized everything... I went so crazy so much I was yelling at myself for being so irrational. I like it now! But it helps me to channel things into a project of some sorts.

It's super hard... if I had a dollar for every tear I shed in a cab, airport waiting room, shuttle bus, etc. when I was leaving Egypt I'd be a rich woman. But honestly, even with all of those tears, it was nothing compared to the heart-wrenching goodbye that my husband had with his family (sisters, nieces, brothers) when he was finally leaving with me. Because they all knew that he wouldn't be seeing them again for at least a few years (it's been three years now, and not sure yet when we will be able to go back to visit definitively. They were crying, then I was crying, then my daughter was crying because I was crying, and I felt like such a heel for taking him away from his family which obviously loved him so much. I think sometimes we forget that as much as it pains us to live away from our husbands/wives during the immigration process, it is also painful for them to move away from their families.

Reading this thread brought back many memories. Going to Egypt 4 times, each and every trip was harder and harder to say goodbye.

Watching him thru the glass made it difficult to concentrate with tears streaming down my face and this huge lump in my throat not

knowing what was ahead of our journey. The stress was so overwhelming. My third trip I decided to stay a few months. That helped, but

made it even harder to leave. My last and final trip I knew I couldn't leave without him, so just waited and then our visa came!

We traveled back to the states together and I will always be grateful for that opportunity.

Those memories are so vivid. I treasured each and every moment. He did return to Alexandria 3 yrs later after receiving his citizenship.

Well now I am back in the USA. Leaving was hard. No two ways about it. The flight home I was torn between times of crying and times of feeling numb. It was hard but now I am here and am focused on what I have to do to get things ready to go back in January to get married. This just seems to be something we all have to do and it is a part of the visa journey. So again I thank you all for helping me get through my first good bye. Now on to my wedding plans....
