Update::::

Nothing for us to add time wise since we are still where we were last time our position was updated.

On a side note I went to my family doctors at the request of the Consulate doctor to clarify certain matters, which was done rather quickly. Now my family doctor has to type everything up and get it off to the Consulate doctor. We are hoping that this will be the end to the medical examination, which started on June 7th and I will have the documentation in my hands by at the latest mid August.

That's great!!! you should have that issue all cleared up before your interview :)

Right now we're not expecting anything from Montreal until September so for sure the medical issues should be resolved by then. I will call the doc in two weeks to see if she has everything and find out when I can expect to get the docs.

Lynette, I'm waiting to see you're on your way to Montreal, only 8 days left for you, all the best to ya.

I'm thinking that this is the most stressful part of this voyage ... my house is ripped upside down (it's amazing what kinds of stuff accumulate in drawers and cupboards and closets over the course of 6 years :)) .. everything I've been sorting through makes me travel down a memory lane .. some lanes I wish not to visit ... trying to decide what to keep ... oh dear!! I've been so busy packing away my life I haven't really had time to worry about how the interview will go .. I'm as organized as I'm going to get .. just have to get myself there in one piece (travelling the 401 E don't ya know!!). I'll be leaving for my interview on the 17th with my son in 5 more days and I will give the update when I'm back the night of the 18th :) ... the support and information from you all has been amazing ... thank you

How long does it usually take to get Packet 3 from Montreal? I haven't heard anything from anyone lately. No packet 3 nor a letter from NVC saying they have received my petition and forwarded it, etc. I called the NVC late June to find out that they received my petition on the 27th and sent it to Montreal on the 29th. I know it hasn't been too long, but does Montreal take a long time to send Packet 3s, too, or just scheduling interviews?

I received a letter from the NVC saying that they had received my petition and were forwarding it to Montreal. Someone spoke to Montreal for on Tuesday and they said that they had still not received the paper copy of my petition. My Fiancee still has not received her Package 3 either. You're not alone there are other's with similar timelines in the same situation.

I think I belong here now. I'm having my congressman try to transfer me to Vancouver but I've heard that that's pretty much a no-go since Vancouver is experiencing "staffing shortages" and cannot take any more applications.

<rant>

Does anyone else feel like they're being failed by the State Department? I develop software so I work with foreign citizens all the time. This morning I interviewed a visa holder from India. Last month we brought two people in from Brazil. At USCIS you can pay a fee to have a work visa expedited. At the state department you can use NVARS to schedule interviews and again you can pay a fee to expedite your interview. The expedited interview process doesn't apply to K visas since they are scheduled by the NVC.

I believe in using foreign labour. It's tough not to in the industry I'm in and I am not concerned about my job safety because if a foreigner can steal my job so can another US employee.

What I am very frustrated with is the fact that it's a longer process and there is no fee based acceleration for family visas. The government as a whole should be more committed to uniting families than it should be with foreign work. I understand that large business will obviously petition for faster visa timelines because it's in there best interest to reduce time to delivery of labour. What I don't understand is how the K visa process is being left behind. It should at least be given similar advantage and not de-prioritized below other visa types because of lack of corporate sponsorship.

Is there any way that we can raise awareness about the situation in Montreal, and for that matter the service centers where people can pay to jump ahead in line for other visa types while K visas wait for someone to get around to helping them?

</rant>

Sorry for the rant... I'm frustrated with this whole process. And working every day with offshore labour.

Lynette, believe it or not I am more than happy for you and the entire family, it is well past the time you should have been there. Enjoy the stress because this the last time you will have to go through any stress alone, in the past you had ED's support but that is nothing to the support you will have from him with your being together. Don't worry about the interview it also will pass and soon enough be another memory to you. I'm betting that your son is about as excited as you are right now, I hope he makes good friends near his new home very soon so the new school is easier to cope with. I will be waiting for the interview update, I have been ticking your day off the calendar because mine are still a bit away.

Take care and have a safe trip to Montreal and back

PS I gave evreything to my daughter, what I am keeping already in Kansas except for 2 suitcases and enough furniture for a small batchelor appartment

OK so I just got off the line with MTL 12 minutes hold... a new record for MTL :). Anyways no interview date set yet. But they are processing cases from mid Feb this week so she said in the next 2 weeks I should hear something from them and to try again next Friday. Very friendly and very quick (No nasty customer service rep like the last 2 times)

Hi all

Can anyone clear up some confusion for me? Does the NVC schedule Ir-1 interviews that take place in Montreal - or does Montreal?

And I also have a K-3 limping along which would go to Vancouver - but from MarknAshley...

I'm having my congressman try to transfer me to Vancouver but I've heard that that's pretty much a no-go since Vancouver is experiencing "staffing shortages" and cannot take any more applications.

Does that mean they aren't accepting any new K visas right now - even ones that would be coming directly from NVC? That might explain the mysterious hold-up in K visa approvals. Where did you hear about their 'staffing shortages'?

Thanks

RA

NVC schedules CR-1 and IR-1 interviews with Montreal. Vancouver is still doing K visas within their provincial districts (everything west of... whatever the cutoff point is -- I'm not sure?)

I think the "staff shortage" line is that Vancouver isn't accepting transfers without a valid reason (i.e, that you're moving or going to be out west for an indefinite period of time) and probably because they're possibly short on staff during the summer months. This shouldn't really affect those who are within district of Vancouver though.

RocksAnne, what do you mean about holdups with K visa approvals? Do you mean at the service centre stage? I wouldn't think that consulate shortages would affect service centre processing.
