So now that I realize it takes up to 4 months to get your interview.. I have a NEW QUESTION!

After we first applied for our 129F I went and visited my Fiancee for 5 weeks. I was able to convince the officer at the border I would be returned.. and I of course did on the date promised.

Once we get to the point were we are just waiting for our interview date, will it work the same if I desire to go visit him?

The proof I'd have I was returning to Canada would be, a letter from my employer stating my date of return as a current full time employee. And of course the simple fact that I've got this far in the immigration process, and must return for my interview... OH and my flight itinerary of course.

Do you think i"d have any problem? (I could only take 2 bags with me...)

Been discussed a zillion times here. Some have problems, some do not. I never had a problem. All seems to come down to the POE officer, no one can give you a 100% yes or no. As i stated, I had no problem. I travlled monthly to DC from Halifax. HAd prrof of ties to canada, but never had to show them. I say go for it, but have a back up plan in case you get denied entry. Be honest, answer their questions but don't balb on too much, lol Politeness works wonders. best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

take along a copy of either the approval notice for the petition, and/or a copy of the interview schedule letter if you have it.

As Flames said, you may or may not have difficulties.

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I visited many times without difficulties. But about a month and a half ago I got an officer who didn't know his stuff, and was denied entry. Since then consular officers at both of my interviews (Vancouver -K3, and Montreal -CR1) read the reason for the denial and apologized for it. It was an expensive nuisance but it didn't affect my visa application.

I've been travelling while waiting for my interview date and never had any problems. I carry a thick folder of proof showing ties to Canada and never been asked to show anything. I guess it'####### 'n miss! You won't know unless you try!!!

Thanks for the info.

Do you think you're more or less likely to be denied if you fly vs driving?

I'm in Ontario, and He's in Montana (a 35 hour drive) Do you think it would effect their decision?

I think flying is easier to get through cause you have a return ticket.... but then again, some VJ'rs have had difficulty with getting through at POE. Here in Ottawa the immigration guys are super nice!

I don't think it makes a difference, it's just luck of the draw that you could very rarely get turned back by a bad apple. I was flying from Edmonton (I generally work in remote locations and happened to be there at the time). I've always brought along all of my evidence of returning + approval notices, and hadn't had any problems before that, either at Edmonton, Calgary, or Vancouver.

I guess if there was an easier way to ensure you get across, the bad guys would always win too...

Mind you lying does sometimes seem like the easy way out, though I couldn't personally do it without having it written all over my face. lol.
